Riverside Surgery is a training practice with nearly 11,000 patient in central High Wycombe.
Due to retirement we are recruiting a 4-6 session salaried GP.
We work as a team with clinical triage of patients in the morning so that only patients needing an appointment are seen face to face (and all the patient needing to be seen are seen). The vast majority of patients are seen the same day they contact us if they need to be seen. We do also use e-consult.
We have excellent diabetic and respiratory nurses, a pharmacist, a paramedic, a care co-ordinator, a social prescriber and a Mental Health Practitioner.
We have a coffee break at 10:30am with real coffee and stop for lunch at 13:30.
There is a real team ethos to how we work. We help each other and work together to take good care of our patients. We discuss patient routinely to share knowledge and best practice and are happy to support a newly qualified GP.
We have regular clinical meetings and have recently started a journal club meeting one morning before we start work.
Main duties of the job
At Riverside we work as a team to share the work load.
This job will involve all the normal roles of a GP.
We all telephone triage from 8-9am. GP appointments are 15 minutes. We have a break for coffee. Our templates vary but the maximum number of face to face appointments in the morning is 13 and in the afternoon is 9. There are 5 telephone appointments in the morning and 3 in the afternoon.
We often have unbooked appointments as the triage system we use does not book unnecessary appointments.
We share results, repeat prescriptions and letters.
There are some visits but we now have a paramedic to do the bulk of these on most days.
About us
Riverside Surgery is a very friendly place to work. We have very good admin support. Reception is well run. Patients rarely complain about the phones or the repeat prescription service.
The population we serve is very mixed both in socioeconomic terms and in terms of global majority background. This keeps life interesting.
We have many lovely and grateful patients but we have a zero tolerance policy for any unreasonable patient behaviour. We are firm with patients when we need to be. Our list has been growing fast (by about 100 patients a month) but this is sustainable due to our good organisation. This does mean however that there will be an opportunity for increased sessions in the near future.
