* The ophthalmology department at Frimley Health is dedicated to providing excellent patient care to a wide patient group who experience many different eye conditions. The Orthoptic assistants will work closely with the Orthoptists, Nurses, and Ophthalmologists within the eye department to provide high-quality care to patients. The post holder will rotate between all our clinical areas, supporting and running clinics on and off site. It is a busy and fast-paced department, with many exciting opportunities.
Main duties of the job
* As an integral member of the Ophthalmic team, the post holder will provide support to other members of the multidisciplinary team, in the provision of high-quality patient care.
* Provide a range of non-nursing duties ensuring a sufficient and effective service to the unit at all times.
* Carry out specialised ophthalmic tests and procedures that contribute to the efficient running of the service and pre-tests for the medical staff.

* To be aware of procedures to be followed in the case of Fire, Cardiac Arrest, and any other emergencies.
* To be aware that the Post-holder should not become involved in any financial matters with, or on behalf of a patient or relative, e.g., witnessing a Will, receipt of gifts, etc., and to adhere to hospital policy on this issue.
* As an important member of the team, the post holder should attend and participate in any meetings and training sessions as required.
* To be aware of own levels of competence and at no time attempt tasks above and beyond their ability or training.
Person Specification
* Experience in computer skills.
* Able to work to a consistently high standard.
* Good interpersonal and team working skills under sometimes difficult conditions.
* Experience working in Ophthalmology, outpatients' department, or day surgery unit.
* Driving License for driving between sites.
Qualifications
* GCSE or equivalent at C or above.
* Experience in computer skills.
* NVQ Level 3 or 4 in health and social care or working towards this.
Experience
* Ability to perform area-specific clinical competencies in line with core standards under the direction of a registered practitioner.
* Experience of working in a team, undertaking duties as requested.
* Knowledge of clinical applications.
