The Role
Library Assistants are responsible for the provision of front line library services including counter duties, the maintenance of stock, dealing with enquiries and assisting members of the public in our Computer Learning Centres. You may also be required to assist in the provision of reference, local studies and bibliographical services.
The Home Library Service includes 2 vehicles that deliver a service direct to housebound customers in their own homes, sheltered accommodation and elderly peoples homes.
It is essential that clients have a current, valid driving licence.
The actual hours of work are variable within the period 8.30am to 8.00pm Monday to Friday and 9.00am to 3.00pm Saturday and could be based at any of the eight libraries within Tameside.
About You
You will have previous experience of dealing with the public.
Applicants must have the ability to interact with customers, including the elderly and people with disabilities. You should have a friendly, helpful manner and have confidence in dealing with the public.
You will have good communication skills and an ability to interact with customers .
You will also have the ability to converse at ease with service users/customers and provide advice in accurate spoken English.
You should be well organised, flexible; self-motivated and have confidence in dealing with people.
You must be I.T. literate and familiarity with a “Windows” environment is also essential.
You will be required to: access information contained on the Council Intranet/Internet, complete service request forms on behalf of members of the public as required including taking payment for council service by debit/credit card and cheque.
