Head of Geography, Travel & Tourism
* Location: Reading
* Salary: MPS / UPS plus TLR2b (£6,207) with an average uplift of £1,300 (London Fringe Allowance)
* Reports to: Assistant Vice Principal
A prestigious educational institution is seeking a dedicated Head of Geography, Travel & Tourism to lead and further develop the high-quality curricula in these dynamic subjects. Day-to-day of the role:
* Curriculum Development:
o Collaborate with staff to enhance the geography, travel & tourism curricula across KS3, KS4, and KS5 levels.
o Evaluate and ensure the curricula provide a continuous framework for student learning and progression.
o Stay updated with national developments in curriculum design and pedagogy.
* Teaching and Learning:
o Implement innovative teaching methods and action research techniques in geography, travel & tourism.
o Ensure high-quality lesson planning and delivery to create a positive learning environment.
o Monitor and enhance the quality of teaching alongside the team.
* Assessment and Recording:
o Conduct accurate assessments that inform and enhance future learning.
o Monitor student progress, providing necessary interventions and support.
o Deliver detailed assessment reports to students, parents, and school leaders.
* Student Personal Development and Well-being:
o Promote excellent student engagement, attendance, and punctuality.
o Contribute to students’ personal development through extracurricular activities.
o Uphold the school’s safeguarding policies to ensure a safe educational environment.
* Management of Staff and Resources:
o Manage and mentor geography, travel & tourism department staff.
o Efficiently allocate departmental resources to maximise student achievement.
o Support the recruitment and professional development of new staff.
* Stakeholder Engagement:
o Foster positive relationships within the school community and with external stakeholders.
o Engage with parents and the local community to enhance learning outcomes and opportunities for students.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
* Proven experience in leading a geography, travel & tourism department.
* Strong background in curriculum development and pedagogy.
* Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to innovate and implement effective teaching strategies.
