Overview of the role: Reporting into the Lead Systems Engineer, the successful candidate will join a highly focussed and passionate team leading the delivery of electrical / electronic engineering across the business. The role is within the Group Electrics & Controls Excavator team which has responsibility to ensure that all new JCB Product programmes meet the required technical deliverables against required timing. The role requires technical knowledge, hands-on experience, project delivery process understanding, and the ability to work with diverse teams to ensure delivery in line with product excellence. Located at the manufacturing site, the successful candidate will be able to touch and feel the product to ensure the design level requirements are appropriately translated into machine operation and function. The role will be responsible for co-ordinating the validation & verification of new electrical & electronic systems into the Excavator product range. Working as part of the systems engineering team, you will co-ordinate the definition, interpretation and development of the validation and verification requirements to ensure a robust electrical/electronic system is achieved. This role will involve co-ordinating the validation and verification activity across a range of products with rationalisation and commonality one of the main objectives, whilst pushing new technologies, tool chain and process to enhance the testing process. As a Senior Engineer in validation & verification you will write the test plans and co-ordinate the delivery of the system design. You will co-ordinate the fleet of machines to ensure they are up to date with the latest parts, software and configurations. You will record defects and evidence containment and root cause against each. Additionally you will be responsible for preparing the system level and module level test specifications in conjunction with developing test methods to demonstrate how the customer requirements will be robustly satisfied and approved to the proposed design through validation and verification activity. Your Responsibilities: Thrive in a fast agile environment, developing prototype solutions to validate proof of concept ideas Define the test plans to ensure robust V&V activity can be performed. Co-ordination of machine parts, software and setup, ensuring the latest design solutions are being robustly tested. Ensuring robust and reliable ECU communication protocols are followed in line with industry best practice (SAE J1939, Ethernet) Be able to read electronic schematic diagrams and their electrical wiring diagram counterpart Ensure design for manufacture is considered, both relating to build of the programming and parameter configuration of selected solution. Have a keen interest in monitoring the health and status of the system, via on board diagnostic protocols or over the air communications Sound record keeping techniques, of all designs, revisions and related updates Drive re-use of components and approaches Support of cause and effect analysis – risk assessments, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone About you: Experience within Tier 1 or OE sectors (on highway or off highway) within system engineering or software development Qualified to HND/Degree level in an electronic/electrical based technology discipline or equivalent experience. Understanding of FuSa and Cyber techniques (ISO13849 and ISO21434) Sound base knowledge of low level firmware integration ie bootloader through to application layer and parameter configuration Familiar with CAN bus protocols Happy to use different types of lab equipment to monitor system behaviour ie CAN, frequencies, PWM and basic operation Awareness of functional safety and security impact, on software development Knowledge of different CAN bus protocols ie CANOpen, J1939, ISO14229, ISO14230 Working knowledge of Software development techniques (V Model and functional safety) Experience in the completion of different VnV techniques White/Grey/Black box testing Comfortable working with various electronic lab tools ie Spectrum analyser, Oscilloscope, Signal Generators, DC power supplies Comfortable working with serial tools, bluetooth and over the air diagnostics A good understanding of design verification processes (DVPSOR) Comfortable supporting and completing cause and effect analysis – Risk Assessments, FMEA, 8D, Ishikawa/fishbone Rewards you deserve: This is your chance to join a company that values expertise not only in rewards but also in real employee care.
