Job overview
We are recruiting for a Diabetes Specialist Nurse with an interest in surgical and peri-operative diabetes care, who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients.
This post offers the exciting opportunity to be involved in a pathway to improve the pre-operative preparation of people with diabetes, and support post operatively whilst an in-patient.
The post is held within the award winning East and North Herts institute of diabetes and endocrinology (ENHIDE) and works closely with other members of the MDT.
Following a period of training and competency attainment, the post holder will take responsibility for the provision of expert nursing care and demonstrate competent ability in managing a cohort of patients within these specialties.
The Diabetes Specialist Nurse team provides ward cover seven days per week. This service is delivered on a rotational basis with Diabetes consultant on-call support and you will be expected to be a part of this rotation.

Main duties of the job
The role is within the diabetes & endocrinology department and a keen interest in Diabetes and being able to work effectively as part of a team is key to the success of this role. The ability to work unsupervised and use a high level of interpersonal skills is essential.
You will be working in secondary care, eventually providing complex case management and supporting people living with diabetes in the acute clinical setting both as in-patient and out-patients.
The service has established principles of multidisciplinary team working and a proportion of the role is the delivery of teaching and training which has a team-based approach and is a core part of the specialist service work. Specialist training and clinical supervision will be provided within the current expert nursing team.

* Extensive clinical experience at senior Band 5 or equivalent in an acute setting
