About the Role
We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated Behaviour Support Worker to join our team in Preston. The successful candidate will provide targeted support to children and young people who exhibit challenging behaviours, fostering a positive environment that promotes personal growth, resilience, and academic progress. This role is ideal for someone passionate about making a difference in young lives through tailored interventions and close collaboration with educational staff and families.
Key Responsibilities
* Direct Support: Work one-on-one or in small groups with students to understand and manage behaviours, focusing on promoting positive behaviour strategies.
* Interventions and Plans: Develop and implement individual behaviour support plans (BSPs) in collaboration with teachers, parents, and other professionals.
* Monitoring and Reporting: Track progress on individual behaviour plans, record incidents, and maintain accurate case notes to ensure all support remains effective and relevant.
* Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, SENCOs (Special Educational Needs Coordinators), parents, and external agencies to create a consistent support network for each student.
* Crisis Intervention: Assist in de-escalating challenging situations, using approved techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of all involved.
* Professional Development: Participate in training and professional development sessions to stay up-to-date with the latest behavioural support strategies and safeguarding practices.
Essential Qualifications and Skills
* Experience: Prior experience working with children or young people, ideally in a behaviour support, social care, or educational setting.
* Educational Background: Relevant qualifications in education, psychology, social work, or a related field are preferred.
* Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build trust and rapport with young people, families, and colleagues.
* Knowledge: Familiarity with behaviour management strategies and experience implementing positive behaviour interventions.
* Resilience: Ability to remain calm and patient under pressure, particularly when dealing with challenging behaviour.
* Team Player: Willingness to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure cohesive support for students.
* Flexibility: Willing to adapt to the needs of the students, which may involve some out-of-hours work.
Desirable Attributes
* Training: Certification in de-escalation techniques, trauma-informed care, or other relevant behavioural support training.
* Driving License: A valid UK driver’s license is preferred to facilitate travel between sites or off-site activities if required.
