The Riverside Clinic Outpatient Department consists of seven outpatient consulting rooms, one minor operations room, and one phlebotomy room. The post holder is responsible for the day-to-day nursing needs of the department, ensuring the efficient and effective use of all resources in order to deliver high quality, safe, and effective patient care in an environment of continuous improvement.
This is a clinical role and the post holder will be responsible for ensuring the delivery of safe and evidence-based clinical care, including phlebotomy and cannulation, assisting consultants with minor operations and procedures, wound management, injections, chaperoning, etc.
Duties and Responsibilities

5. To assist on admissions from Outpatients Department to the ward.

7. To assist Outpatient Lead with stock checks and orders.
8. To work with all members of the multi-professional team to develop services to ensure the effective provision of all aspects of clinical care are maintained at a high standard.
9. To contribute to and influence the total patient experience and journey through collaborative working and effective communications with all members of the multi-disciplinary team throughout the hospital.
10. To act as a role model in clinical practice.
11. To adhere at all times to uniform and appearance policy.

Patient Care
1. To adhere at all times to the NMC Code of Professional Standards of Practice and Behaviour for Nurses and Midwives (2005).
2. Ensuring that all patients have their needs assessed, that care plans are developed to meet these needs and are delivered in accordance with agreed policies and procedures.
3. Ensure an ongoing welcoming, caring, and safe environment is provided for the patients and their families.
4. To be a competent practitioner delivering all aspects of care relative to their patient group leading innovation and demonstrating clinical expertise.
5. To ensure approved manual handling techniques in the delivery of safe patient care using procedures taught by the manual handling team, including the safe use of mechanical and non-mechanical manual handling aids.
6. To monitor and assist in the review of clinical standards and practice through the collection of data within their clinical area, providing essential information in a timely manner.
Communication and Relationships
1. To ensure effective communication within the team, both verbally and in written form - ensuring accurate, legible, and holistic nursing records according to NMC guidelines.
2. To facilitate and monitor training for junior staff in relation to communication strategies.
3. To demonstrate sensitivity in dealing with complex and confidential information from patients, families, and colleagues, providing advice and support when necessary.
Education, Professional Development and Training
1. To take every reasonable opportunity for maintaining, developing, and acquiring competencies and skills for self-development.
2. To participate in the supervision, training, and effective mentorship of junior staff (student nurses) and Health Care Assistants.
3. To keep up to date with mandatory training and e-learning.

2. To promote relevant research findings to support clinical practice and education within the department.
3. Ensure mechanisms are in place to seek patients' views and are taken into account in decision-making and care delivery within the department.

Standards of Care
1. To ensure that the highest standard of evidence-based nursing care is delivered to all patients and their families.
2. To act as patient advocate, ensuring privacy, dignity, and confidentiality are met.
3. To report any issues that are identified by patients or their relatives on a timely basis.
4. To ensure that all provision of nursing care is documented on a timely basis and accurately reflects the patient experience.
5. To ensure that individual consultant care protocols are followed.
6. To ensure a high standard of infection control and the prevention of all avoidable healthcare-associated infections.
7. To administer all drugs and medications as per the local policies and procedures.
8. To report to Outpatient Lead any nursing issues of significance or concern.

1. To ensure that all clinical training requirements are fulfilled according to local requirements and the framework.
2. To successfully complete the Immediate Life Support course on an annual basis, as per Group policy.
3. To ensure personal continuing professional development (CPD) is maintained to comply with NMC registration, including Revalidation requirements.
4. To ensure that all mandatory training is attended and completed within the required timeframes.
5. To maintain and demonstrate current awareness regarding developments in nursing and service.
