Main duties of the job
Are you looking for a new challenge and a chance to expand your knowledge and experience within a pharmacy environment?
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a new Advanced Senior Pharmacy Support Worker to join our dynamic, forward-thinking Oncology aseptic team at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust.
You will be required to work in our brand-new aseptic suite assisting with the preparation of aseptically prepared products and working towards achieving your PIPC (pre and in-process checking) qualification, which on completion will enable you to perform quality checks on manufactured products in the unit. You will be expected to support our team of pharmacy technicians to help co-ordinate staff to ensure efficient workflow, organise and prioritise treatments to prevent patient delays and to ensure that all processes are followed as per our standard operating procedures.
In addition to this, you will be enrolled onto a 24-month training program to develop your aseptic skills, which on completion will lead to registration with ‘The Science Council’ as a ‘Science Manufacturing Technician.’
Qualifications / training required
* Registered pharmacy technician in UK by GPhC or working towards qualifications suitable for registration as a pharmacy technician with the GPhC within the next six months.
* Numerate and literate e.g. GCSE in Maths and English A* to C or equivalent
Previous or relevant experience necessary
* Accurate dispensing of medicines (in hospital or community pharmacy or aseptics)
* Dealing with customers and / or patients
* Maintaining continuous professional development requirements or training portfolio
* Hospital pharmacy experience
* Stock control / ordering experience
* Providing a ward-based medicines management service
* Aseptic pharmacy experience
* Clinical trials or research experience
* Experience of using JAC or similar pharmacy based computer systems
Aptitudes and skills required
* Communicate accurately and effectively with others both in speaking and in writing
* Attention to detail and accurate in work e.g. dispensing, calculations
* Able to use a range of information technology programmes effectively
* Demonstrate times when able to work effectively under pressure
* Able to use initiative, but know their own limitations and professional boundaries
* Tactful and show empathy
* Demonstrates being able to organise their and others workload and prioritise effectively
* Effectively work as part of a team
* Experience of supervision of staff or trainees
* Participation in team meetings
