An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, experienced and capable Specialist Biomedical Scientist, with an interest in career progression.
The successful applicant will be a suitably qualified and experienced HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist who may hold or be working towards an IBMS specialist qualification and or MSc.
This is an internal opportunity to support the Biochemistry Section at The Princess Royal Hospital, Telford.
The role involves management and deployment of staff within the Blood Sciences laboratory. You will lead the Biochemistry section and will ensure that all aspects of the technical performance of that area are of the highest standard.
A Roche equipment refresh will be undertaken in the next few months.
The department is an approved IBMS/HCPC training laboratory and continuous professional development is actively encouraged.
Main duties of the job
* Assist the Head BMS and other senior grade staff in the management of the department's sections.
* Manage and deploy staff within a section(s) of work assigned to you, ensuring adherence to relevant Trust policies, e.g. health and safety, HR (personnel).
* Deputise for the Deputy Head BMS in their absence and take direct responsibility for the department.
* Provide cover for other senior specialists within your department.
* Perform a range of senior specialist activities and provide highly specialist advice to clinicians and other service users.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* BSc(Hons) in Biomedical Science or related subject
* Registered with HCPC as Biomedical Scientist
* MSc or equivalent in relevant discipline
* IBMS Certificate of Extended practice
* Fellowship of the Institute of Biomedical Science
Experience
* Experience of supervising members of staff
* Extensive knowledge and understanding of the work undertaken in Pathology
* Experience of interaction with varied groups of people with differing levels of knowledge
* Experience of training laboratory staff
* Experience of guiding a student through an apprenticeship, IBMS registration portfolio and the Certificate of achievement
* Experience of quality control troubleshooting
* Excellent working knowledge of all aspects of Quality Management & ISO15189
* Knowledge of quality control and assurance
* Knowledge of Q-Pulse (Quality Management System) software
* Understanding of laboratory Health and Safety

Salary: £46,148 to £52,809 per annum / pro rata
