We have a forward-thinking Operating Theatre Team, led jointly by the Service Manager, Matron and Clinical Theatre Manager.
The team comprises of Two Band 7 Day Surgery Leads coordinating and supporting the Anaesthetics, Recovery, and Scrub Specialities. The rest of the Theatre Team includes Band 6's leading within their speciality and a strong Band 5 team of registered theatre practitioners supported by theatre support workers.
The department has a strong educational lead and actively encourages training and development opportunities for all staff, committed to their educational needs to ensure high standards of patient care within Day Surgery at the West Suffolk Hospital.
Main duties of the job

With a major focus on elective recovery, our Trust has excellent opportunities for experienced and newly qualified band 5 theatre practitioners to develop, enhance, consolidate and excel in their skills.
As a registered theatre practitioner, you will practice autonomously and be responsible and accountable for safe, compassionate person-centred, evidence-based care that respects and maintains dignity and human rights.
The post holder will work in partnership with other Health and Social Care professionals, students and trainees, agencies, service users and their carers and families.
The post holder will achieve and maintain competence in identified Mandatory and Statutory training, developing and maintaining clinical competencies, skills, and knowledge related to the area of clinical practice.
Staff will be expected to rotate between practice settings, which will include different specialities and areas of practice including Anaesthetics, Recovery, and Scrub.

The post holder is expected to work closely with all disciplines to ensure the promotion of high standards for all patients requiring all aspects of perioperative care, following appropriate training encompassing a variety of specialities.
The post holder is expected to carry out all relevant forms of care with direct supervision and will be expected to demonstrate procedures and supervise unqualified staff.
To assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care within his/her sphere of responsibility, having regard for the differing needs of anaesthesia, surgery and recovery.
To supervise the delivery of care of other staff as appropriate.
To act in accordance with the legal requirements and statutory rules relating to practice and West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust policies and procedures.
To liaise with other health care team members within the Perioperative Services Directorate in accordance with patient requirements and needs, ensuring confidentiality of patient information.
Participate as a member of the theatre team, providing total patient care during the perioperative visit ensuring a safe environment.
Assist with implementation and monitoring of patient care standards in collaboration with others.
Utilise a questioning approach to patient care and application of research within clinical practice. To raise awareness of relevant research findings in clinical practice complying with the principles of Clinical Governance. To actively participate in the audit process.
To be aware of the Health and Safety at Work Act and WSH policy implementation. To actively promote and implement risk assessment strategies within the department.

Education and qualifications
* NMC or HCPC registration
* RGN or ODP qualification
* Preparation for Mentorship
* Specific Theatre qualification or equivalent ability
Experience and knowledge

* Post-qualification experience in a peri-operative environment
