Business Support Services Branch provides a very diverse range of services to support front line policing in GMP. These include Vehicle Fleet management, vehicle repair and maintenance, Facilities and Building maintenance, driver services, vehicle recovery, 24 hour Duty Office, Uniform and Equipment supply, Design and Print, catering and security.
The role of the Duty Officer is varied and plays a key role in supporting front line policing. Working a 24 hour shift pattern 365 days a year the Duty Officers work in team of 2 and provide a vehicle recovery service directing recovery operators to collect vehicles. The role also involves tasking and directing Senior Transport officers to provide a driver service for GMP. The Duty Officers also direct and allocate boarding and glazing jobs to contractors as well as instructing funeral directors to attend sudden deaths.
The successful candidate will need multi-tasking skills relevant to the post as well as good attention to detail, i.e., checking, recording and retrieving information and associated filing. It is essential to the post that you are competent in using computer systems, i.e., Microsoft packages and the Internet, the ability to produce written work to the required standard, accurately in order to meet deadlines, remaining calm in a busy environment is essential.
