We have an exciting opportunity for a well-motivated, enthusiastic Occupational Therapy Assistant to join the Independence and Wellbeing Service within Adult Social Care in Cornwall Council. You will be entering an exciting but changing and challenging work landscape as we move towards a locality based, multi-disciplinary and strengths-based way of working within the local Primary Care Network areas, leading towards a closer and more effective way of working with partner agencies such as health colleagues, community services, voluntary sector and other partner agencies. The post. We are looking for a dedicated, enthusiastic, and motivated Occupational Therapy Assistant to develop their skills within the area of Occupational Therapy within Adult Social Care. Regular supervision will be provided together with ongoing daily support from Band 5 and Band 6 Occupational Therapists. Within your clinical caseload, you will be responsible for undertaking person-centred, strengths-based assessments to enable people who have social care needs to live safely and independently within their local communities. As part of this, you will be involved in focusing upon preventing, reducing and delaying the need for care and support. This, in turn, will help to ensure that our residents, families and communities have the right support in place at the right time. You will be involved in completing functional assessments via remote assessments and within a person’s home, exploring and advising upon the need for reablement and rehabilitation alongside assessing and advising on assistive technology; the provision of equipment; the provision of minor and major adaptations and advising on rehousing as and where appropriate. Your role will also involve seeking new creative, innovative, cost efficient and effective solutions to problematic situations. You will be allocated a range of both Therapy and Sensory Loss (hearing impairment) cases and will be provided with the training required for the post. You will need to be innovative with good interpersonal skills and have the ability to work well under pressure. You will need to have an understanding of the six principles of Safeguarding to help to protect vulnerable adults from harm or abuse and support people to optimise their choices in order to live as independently as possible. About You. You will require the following: a minimum level 3 qualification in health, social care or relevant area or the capacity and willingness to work towards appropriate the qualifications. the ability to use effective interviewing skills to undertake assessments of need, including risks and strengths. demonstrable skills in analysis of information and ability to translate into a coherent plan and outcome. the ability to work creatively under stressful conditions, know when and how to ask for support and to pass information and cases to more experienced/qualified workers, as appropriate, following negotiation with supervisor; and the ability to reprioritise and be flexible to respond to urgent referrals the ability to drive and have access to a suitable vehicle What you’ll get in return: Ambition is to be an employer of choice, a high performing Council and a learning organisation.
