They are seeking an experienced Principal Battery Test Engineer to join our rapidly growing team in Bristol, UK. This role offers flexible working arrangements, and relocation support within the UK is available.
As part of our team, you will contribute to the battery safety, performance testing, and failure analysis services we provide across industries including automotive, aerospace, consumer electronics, medical devices, and wearables. This role is essential to expanding our battery testing capabilities, from cell-level projects to large electric vehicle (EV) pack testing.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and manage on-site battery testing, ensuring customer products are tested in line with provided standards and specifications.
Oversee project scoping, test setup, safety assessments, script writing, and result delivery.
Provide technical leadership in the development of new battery testing technologies and setups.
Handle multiple projects, ensuring accurate, timely testing data and quality control sign-offs.
Collaborate with customers, commercial teams, and management to communicate project status and test results.
Support business development by contributing to internal investments and customer engagements.
Set up and operate battery testing equipment, including cyclers, test stand controllers, and environmental chambers.
Provide training and mentorship to junior technicians and engineers.
Utilize internal and industry knowledge to draw meaningful conclusions from test data.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Science or Engineering, preferably in electrical, electrochemical, or mechanical engineering.
Strong knowledge of safe testing practices for cells, batteries, modules, and EV packs.
Experience using battery testing software or similar programs.
Proficiency in laboratory safety, quality management systems, and safety assessments.
Strong communication, organization, and customer service skills.
Ability to apply theoretical knowledge in practical battery testing scenarios.
Expertise in problem-solving, data analysis, and interpreting technical diagrams and instructions.
Good understanding of battery lifecycle, performance, durability, and safety testing.
Ideally, experience with high-voltage training and battery cell/pack teardowns.
Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
