Tradewind are pleased to offer an exciting SEN English Teacher opportunity at an SEND school for autism in the Workington area of West Cumbria commencing in January 2025!
The school, based just outside Workington, is specialised to cater for pupils with autism, and they require a teacher to work with secondary aged pupils, with particular emphasis on leading English. The pupils are of mixed ability, working from GCSE level but also Functional Skills and ASDAN, whilst also differentiating for pupils working at Key Stage 2 level.
The role will involve predominantly teaching English across different ability secondary aged classes in the mornings, with the afternoons dedicated to more cross-curricular, topic-based learning and some focus on ASDAN too.
While a secondary trained English Teacher would be desirable, the school is open to hiring a primary trained teacher who has experience of teaching pupils with special needs. The school has fantastic on-site facilities for children with autism, and class sizes are small - with a maximum of 6 pupils per class, and with 2-3 TAs in every classroom too. The SLT and staff pride themselves on providing an environment and curriculum where pupils will be happy.
The pay for this role will vary from £155 - £220+ per day, dependent upon experience, and a permanent position will likely become available for the right candidate later in 2025!
Requirements:
1. Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential

1. Supportive and collaborative working environment
2. Opportunity for career progression and professional development
