We're looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer (Contract) to support our experienced engineering team and deliver transformative laser communications technology. You will be responsible for developing alignment equipment, test support equipment and supporting the development of the mechanical precision gimbal.
Key Responsibilities:
* Design and develop mechanical systems which are a part of the laser comm system.
* Prepare detailed engineering drawings.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve design and integration issues.
* Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers to ensure solution feasibility and manufacturability.
* Support prototype assembly and testing activities, including hands-on troubleshooting and design iteration.
Requirements:
* Educational Background: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience.
* Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, preferably within high-precision or aerospace industries.
* Must have at least 2 years Solidworks experience (Solidworks PDM experience a plus).
* Design for Manufacture Knowledge: Understanding of machining, fabrication, and assembly processes for precision assemblies.
* Able to produce detailed Engineering Drawings (preferably experienced in GD&T).
* Experience Managing Suppliers to get designs produced successfully.
* Team Collaboration: Proven ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
Desirable additional skills:
* Experience with mechanical calculations and FEA tools, such as ANSYS or SolidWorks Simulation.
* Experience with opto-mechanical / high-precision systems.
* Experience in an R&D team.
Location: Hybrid with travel when required. Our office is based in Osney Mead, Oxford.
