An exciting and rare opportunity has arisen to work as an Occupational Therapist Band 5/6. This is a development role over a period of approximately 2 years to progress through the completion of a competency framework to a Band 6 Occupational Therapist within the Central Adult Mental Health Community Treatment Team based in Ashington, Northumberland.
This position allows you to embed your core skills as an Occupational Therapist within a supportive, experienced team. We are committed to providing the best possible care and support to people in the community to develop skills that enable engagement with meaningful occupations that enhance their lives. We use the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) to structure assessment, 1:1's, and group interventions.
We are looking for a highly motivated person who is friendly and confident to work both autonomously and as part of a team. The successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to work well under pressure, seek guidance when needed, and contribute to the development of the Occupational Therapy and wider team.
It will be useful to have awareness of how mental health issues impact on people's daily lives and how to record and manage risks associated with working in a mental health setting. You will have the chance to work alongside our multi-disciplinary team as well as with a variety of external agencies to ensure the best possible outcomes for the people in our community.
Main Duties of the Job
1. To provide occupational therapy service to service users who have a variety of occupational therapy needs, diverse presentations, and a range of mental health conditions under the direction of a more experienced member of Occupational Therapy staff.
2. To manage and provide ongoing assessment and intervention for service users.
3. To consider carer needs and ensure carer and family involvement in intervention planning where appropriate.
4. To develop and deliver evidence-based Occupational Therapy interventions in collaboration with service users and carers where appropriate.
5. The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team ensuring that high quality, individualized care is delivered which ensures safety and a commitment to promoting recovery, wellbeing, and maximising independence.
6. To provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect, and dignity.
7. To provide clinical supervision to staff members as delegated by Clinical Lead.
8. To incorporate a client-centered philosophy into clinical practice and client-centered collaborative care.

Person Specification
Education and Qualification
* Recognised Occupational Therapy degree qualification
* Registered with HCPC
* Commitment to complete fieldwork education training
* Member of the Royal College of Occupational Therapy
Knowledge and Experience
* Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, HCPC and RCOT standards, and other local and national initiatives
* Experience of working with service users and carers in successful delivery of intervention plans
* Multi-disciplinary teamwork
* Knowledge of relevant contemporary professional theories and evidence-based interventions
* Previous experience of working in a community setting
* Experience of involving service users/carers in evaluation, planning, and monitoring of services
