Job overview
The Royal Marsden NHSFT has an international reputation for high quality patient care, education and research and its partnership with the Institute of Cancer Research has created the largest comprehensive cancer centre in Europe.
The project aims to trial novel drugs and cancer vaccines for bowel cancer.
The successful applicant will work closely with Professor David Cunningham and with the newly appointed GI Research Consultant funded by the Bowelbabe Fund for Cancer Research UK, Dr Hazel Lote. The supervisory team will include a scientist/clinician scientist.
There are several clinics in Sutton and Chelsea. The appointee will be allocated their clinics which may change on a rotational basis. There is no in-patient, clinical cover or on-call work associated with this role.
Main duties of the job
The fellow will also be required to undertake some clinical duties in this clinical research fellowship. These include:
* Attend 1-2 follow-up/new patient clinics per week to develop competence in managing patients with GI cancers and to identify patients for suitable clinical trials.
* Attend 1 research clinic per week held either in the West Wing Clinical Research Centre (Sutton, Mon and Thurs am) or the Medical Day Unit (Chelsea, Tues pm) to acquire the skill set to undertake GCP and protocol compliant review and documentation of patients in clinical research trials.
* Optional attendance at Multi-disciplinary Team Meetings relevant to the research project.
* Optional attendance at the monthly Immunotherapy governance group meeting to update the group on the progress of patients on immunotherapy drug trials within the GI/lymphoma unit.

Person specification
Qualifications
* Eligible for full GMC registration.
* MRCP or equivalent.
* Trainee in medical oncology, clinical oncology or gastroenterology.
* National training number (NTN) in relevant specialty.
Experience
* Management of cancer patients including chemotherapy.
* Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching.
Skills, abilities and knowledge
* Ability and willingness to work within a multi-disciplinary team.
* Previous experience of clinical trials and management of patients on clinical trials.
* Commitment to participate actively in clinical research and collaborate in translational research.
Other
* Experience and interest in GI oncology.
