Locum Consultant in Respiratory Medicine

The Consultant Respiratory Physicians at North Manchester General Hospital provide assessment, diagnosis, treatment and management of a wide variety of respiratory conditions and symptoms.
Currently, the NMGH Respiratory Team has x2 locum posts available to cover maternity leave for 12 months. These roles offer an opportunity to work within an outstanding respiratory team and provide clinical leadership, diagnosis, management, and treatment for patients in respiratory medicine. An interest in Interstitial Lung Disease or Lung Cancer would also be beneficial.
Main duties of the job
* Working alongside other consultant colleagues, provide a quality service to the Trust with responsibility for the diagnosis and treatment of patients referred to respiratory services within both the inpatient and outpatient settings.
* In conjunction with consultant colleagues, provide clinical leadership and contribute to the vision and values of the service.
* Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff.
* Participate in the weekly consultant Hot Week Rota for the respiratory ward and respond to respiratory referrals from an inpatient perspective.
* Contribute to ongoing service improvements.
* Actively support patients and their families, communicating clinical information to explain a diagnosis and treatment options using various methods to ensure practical understanding.

Person Specification
Education and Qualifications
* Primary medical qualification e.g. MBChB
* Full registration with the GMC
* Clinical expertise in Respiratory Medicine and broad knowledge of general medicine
* Clinical expertise in a specialist area of Respiratory Medicine e.g. lung cancer, ILD
* Attendance at Advanced communication skills or similar course
