Ecologist
Working Pattern: 37 hrs per week – Monday to Friday, hybrid working and flexi-time.
Location: West Bridgford, Nottingham
Do you have a knowledge of common British protected species and habitats? Are you experienced in ecological field surveys? Do you want to work on local projects with most of our schemes within Nottinghamshire and the wider East Midlands?
Via East Midlands is looking for an Ecologist to join our experienced Environmental Management & Design Team based in West Bridgford, Nottingham.
Via’s Environmental Management and Design consultancy blends a range of specialist disciplines covering Ground Investigation and Contamination; Specialist surveying and monitoring; Acoustics; Ecology and Landscape Architecture.
The Job
Key areas of responsibility will include:
* To undertake ecological assessments, such as surveys and reports to achieve quality, programme and financial targets.
* To contribute to the growth of the ecological service and identify opportunities for development in the market.
* To provide expert advice around legislation and delivery of projects.
* To design and deliver ecological mitigation schemes and adhere to legislative and industry best practice.
* To provide specialist ecology support to Planning Authorities, including undertaking the role of expert witness at planning/public inquiry.
* To have an understanding of Biodiversity Net Gain legislation and the complexity and application of the metric to meet planning requirements.
* To ensure full adherence to health, safety and environmental legislation, policy and best practice.
* To liaise with a wide range of people to facilitate project delivery and maintain Via’s positive company reputation.
The Person
Mainly you will be excited to be a part of our environmental projects, but there are just a few other things we’d like from you:
* A relevant degree and be eligible for a full CIEMM membership with experience or knowledge gained through practical experience.
* Background in ecological survey methods and assessment techniques, and ideally holding a Natural England protected species licence.
* Proven experience of working as an ecological clerk of works on construction sites and undertaking preliminary ecological appraisals and producing high quality ecological impact assessments and other technical reports.
* Strong ICT skills with specialist computer applications such as GIS software packages and MS Office.
* Knowledge of health & safety, technical requirements, best practice, planning and other legislation appropriate to ecology role.
* Experience of ecological disciplines including financial monitoring, providing information and working with key stakeholders.
* A high level of personal drive and commitment to delivering excellent customer care whilst setting examples to peers.
