The Role We are looking for a Senior Bookkeeper / Client Manager with strong administrative, automation, and IT skills to manage client relationships, improve processes, and ensure operational efficiency. This is a hands-on role, not just bookkeeping, and requires someone who is proactive and highly organised in a fast paces environment. Key Responsibilities Client & Administration Management Be the main point of contact for clients, handling all communication, meetings, and queries. Ensure clients provide necessary documents and information on time. Minimise the need for client contact with the Director by proactively handling queries and issues. Deal with HMRC queries and submissions on behalf of clients. Assist with client onboarding, IT access issues, and software troubleshooting. Bookkeeping & Financial Administration Oversee bank reconciliations, CIS submissions, VAT returns, payroll, and supplier/client payments. Ensure client bookkeeping is up to date and accurate Review and reconcile financial records, ensuring compliance with CIS and VAT Process Improvement & Automation Identify and implement automation solutions to improve efficiency internally and for clients Optimise workflows in Xero, QuickBooks, Dext, and other cloud-based systems. Develop checklists and templates to streamline recurring tasks. Team Oversight & Workflow Management Delegate and monitor tasks for admin team. Review and ensure the quality of junior staff’s work (bookkeeping, reconciliations, VAT, and CIS). Track deadlines and ensure all tasks are completed on time. Billing & Financial Oversight Agree fees with clients before work begins. Ensure the team’s client portfolio remains profitable and efficient. What We’re Looking For Must-Have Skills & Experience 3 years in a UK bookkeeping practice role Be qualified to an equivalent of AAT level 3 or equivalent Strong administrative skills - highly organised and able to manage multiple clients efficiently. Proficiency in Xero, QuickBooks, and CIS. Excellent IT skills, including automation and workflow tools. Experience handling HMRC submissions (VAT, CIS, PAYE). Problem-solving mindset - able to resolve IT/software/access issues for clients. Strong communication skills - comfortable dealing with clients independently. £35,000 pro rata, 20 hours per week (this is likely to increase in the near future if desired)
