Are you someone who takes ownership and pride in the work you do? Do you thrive on solving complex problems and delivering practical, real-world solutions? Are you a detail-oriented self-starter with a curious mindset? If you're looking for a rewarding career at the forefront of project development where you can truly make an impact, come and join EDF as a Design Authority Technical & Development Lead!
The Opportunity
As a Design Authority Technical & Development Lead, you’ll play a key role in delivering a modern standard safety case for the UK’s first new nuclear power station in decades. You’ll also help shape the organisational structure, enhancing capability and processes to ensure safety cases are delivered effectively, meet critical project milestones, and support future operational needs.
What you’ll be doing
You’ll join the Design Substantiation and Integrity team within the HPC Design Authority, playing a vital role in developing and maintaining the nuclear safety case across the full lifecycle of the plant.
You’ll provide expert technical guidance to help resolve complex issues, supporting construction, commissioning, and safe operation, while collaborating closely with teams across Nuclear Services, Construction, Commissioning, and Operations. You’ll also work with OEM designers, suppliers, and regulators, while identifying strategic opportunities to enhance the Design Authority and influence broader HPC developments. Your leadership and safety case expertise will support both project goals and wider organisational success.
Who you are
You’ll bring a proactive, self-starting mindset with the ability to work across multiple disciplines and organisational levels to tackle technically complex challenges and support the development and maintenance of the nuclear safety case.
You’ll have the ability to see the bigger picture—analysing a range of data and technical inputs to strategically scope, plan and deliver work. You’ll thrive on translating complex analysis into clear, concise recommendations, while constructively challenging existing strategies and identifying pragmatic, risk-informed solutions.
We’re looking for someone who performs well under pressure, excels in high-profile, fast-paced environments, and can confidently hold a technical position when challenged. Strong organisational skills and the ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team are essential.
To support your development, you’ll also have access to a comprehensive Safety Case Engineer/Case Officer training programme and Behaviour-led Technical Leadership training to help bridge any knowledge gaps and support your continued growth.
If this sounds like you then we’d love to hear from you!
