Clinical and Service Provision
To work independently as a Radiographer to a high professional standard and performing a wide variety of examinations within protocol, ensuring patient safety and providing assistance and guidance to qualified and unqualified staff in order to maintain these standards. Effectively liaise with multi-disciplinary colleagues, patients, and carers as required. Triage referrals from a variety of sources/manage clinical priorities according to agreed protocols, working practices, and KPIs. Work autonomously to the standard set by the Directorate delivering individualized direct patient care.
Can work within a team and where required lead a small specialty team in order to deliver effective direct patient care, managing workflow and prioritizing patients. Maintain up-to-date clinical competence and the highest professional standards. Practice within a risk-benefit framework, having regard to the Biological effects of Radiation and IRMER Legislation where appropriate. Ensure adherence to the pause and check and where required ensure that all generated images are appropriately and correctly labeled in line with trust requirements. Where appropriate escalate image findings and where necessary carry out additional or adaptation of imaging.
Where there is a requirement, supply administer medicines within the legal framework and associated PGD. Provide a seamless high-quality service from referral through to justification, authorization, imaging, and intervention. Use professional judgement to act as an advocate for the patient to ensure a patient-focused approach to the delivery of care. Support and enable patients and carers to make informed decisions related to their examination, intervention, and management.
Escalate any concerns via the radiographic/professional structure as required. To ensure the agreed quality standards for imaging services are met in accordance with local and national KPIs as required. Report and raise concerns related to safeguarding, accessing advice and support as required, being conversant with trust policies for safeguarding including the assessment of mental capacity and consideration of deprivation of liberty and the application of the principles of PREVENT (counter-terrorism awareness). Ensure effective and accurate verbal or written handover of patients between healthcare professionals. Ensure that high standards of all documentation are maintained with accurate complete and up-to-date information regarding patient care and are kept in accordance with trust and directorate standards and processes.
Support the quality and standards of care provided by the team in clinical areas. Escalate any concerns to the appropriate line manager. To work within the HCPC standards of proficiency for Radiographers and standards of conduct, performance, and ethics. Where required participate in rosters that incorporate extended 7-day working and work on different sites in accordance with service needs.
Ensure that all equipment belonging to, and within radiology is operating safely. Report and stop the use of equipment where there is any risk to the patient, staff, or itself. Report any defects, malfunctions, or faults to the appropriate manufacturer. Record all actions taken with respect to such equipment and notify your line manager or site lead of actions taken.
Ensure the maintenance of safe, clean, and tidy working environments, particularly the adherence of infection control procedures and promote and ensure the same among all staff. Expected to develop in role expansion where required. Demonstrate a flexible approach towards the hours and days of work, will participate in work and duties as required relevant to both the directorate and wider hospital. To participate in any out of hours rota already established or established in the future.
Can where required undertake venepuncture and IV cannulation for administration of contrast media, IV flush, and other managed medicines pertinent to departmental examination protocols in accordance with relevant PGD. Take appropriate action to ensure the safety of patients and others. To report any accidents/incidents to a senior member of staff and on the datix system. To play an active role in clinical governance and demonstrate through everyday practice.
Professional Leadership
Support on the training of new techniques and equipment whilst ensuring that consistent competencies are achieved, signed off, and documented in the appropriate way. Support where required to ensure appropriate staffing of an area. Escalating to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained. To support with cover for both in and out of hours shifts i.e., when unavoidable absence occurs at short notice. To escalate issues arising that impacts on service delivery to the modality leads and service managers. Where relevant, observe and ensure adherence to IRR and IRMER in accordance with trust policies, procedures, and local rules.
Where appropriate ensure the radiation safety of all individuals, in relevant working environments in accordance with the current IRR. When entitled to do so by the employer, undertake practitioner and operator roles within current IRMER and all amendments as appropriate to professional practice. Promote team working, build rapport and collaborative working practices with multi-disciplinary teams. Liaise with inter-hospital departments and personnel across organizational and professional groups. Ensure effective communication and interpersonal skills with other disciplines and organizations.
Act as a clinical role model demonstrating high standards of clinical practice and provide support and advice to other staff when necessary. Participate in supporting staff on induction and training with regards to competency sign off.
Education
Maintain skill in all areas of the trusts mandatory training by attending lectures and training sessions on manual handling, adult and pediatric resuscitation, fire and security, and data. To support in the training of others with regard to induction, orientation, and continuous education of Radiographers, Radiology assistants, Assistant practitioners, and students. Promote and develop a positive learning environment throughout the trust.
Act as a mentor and assessor to staff members and students as required, providing educational advice and support. Where required, provide staff training in equipment and consumable products associated with the care and treatment of patients, ensuring they are educated to understand the correct method of clinical assessment before using such items with patients. Ensure that pre-registered students receive appropriate learning experience whilst allocated to the team. To attend professional training/development courses as appropriate to maintain own specialist knowledge and provide appropriate feedback.
Maintain a personal CPD portfolio containing reflective practice and evidence of personal development in line with HCPC standards. To be responsible for own registration with the HCPC. To identify to your manager any known limitations within your professional competence.
Audit and Research
Participate in audit or research projects as required to ensure best practice. Assist in the test and evaluation of new equipment within the clinical area.
Quality and Safety
Ensure compliance with trust mandatory training modules remains above 95% at all times. To participate in Quality assurance within the department and quality audits. Participate in quality governance, observing at meetings as required, being involved in any quality improvement initiatives and ensuring all quality governance updates are read and adhered to. Ensure patient safety by escalating any risks with clinical staffing or service provision to your lead.
Report any quality and safety issues immediately to quality and safety lead, modality lead Radiographer or Head of imaging. May be deployed to work in any part of the directorate/organization should the need arise to ensure patient safety is maintained. Comply with latest IRMER and IRR requirements as well as the associated local rules (in accordance with current IRMER regulations) and all safety procedures in place for MRI where applicable.
Where required, measure quantities of Radioactivity with precision and calculate adjustments to compensate for Radioactive decay. Ensure appropriate decontamination procedures are in place and undertaken - Nuclear Medicine. Safely and efficiently manipulate all medical equipment within the post holder's area of expertise associated with the imaging and care of patients. Employees must, at all times, carry out duties and responsibilities with due regard to the trusts equal opportunities policy. The post holder will be expected to promote and implement the trust equal opportunities policy.
Maintain stock levels within the clinical area and compliance with stock rotation records.
Finance, Information, and Resources
To ensure the effective use of resources, liaising with the modality lead where required. Liaise with modality lead in the requisitions of consumables where required and ensure appropriate levels of consumables are stored on site.
