Location:
SLB Cambridge Research (SCR) is part of SLB's global network of research and engineering centres. SCR is a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment with state-of-the-art research and computing facilities. We work on applied research projects in the physical sciences to meet the current and future challenges of the industry. SLB Cambridge Research is a distinctive marquee-like structure dominating the High Cross site on the western outskirts of Cambridge, England. This spectacular building was completed in 1985 and the smaller second phase was opened in 1992. It has recently been classified as a Grade II listed building. Altogether, there are more than 930 m2 of laboratory space and offices for more than 100 scientists, technicians and domain experts.
Job Summary:
We are seeking a creative self-motivated Research Scientist to develop models for multi-physics systems including multiphase fluid dynamics. The job will require experience in first-principle and numerical modelling approaches and working with experimentalists and domain experts on hypothesis testing and concept development. The candidate will need to work constructively and effectively in a multidisciplinary team and engage with business and engineering teams to ensure their solutions have a significant impact. They will also present their work internally and externally.
Responsibilities:
1. Work in modelling multiphase fluid flow (gas, liquid, and solid flow physics)
2. Work with experimentalist and production domain experts to build and validate models and concepts and match models to experimental or field data
3. Engage and collaborate with SLB technical community
4. Ability to develop novel solutions to research and engineering problems, and articulate them to the technology team and management
5. Publish scientific papers, write patent applications and attend conferences
Qualifications:
1. PhD in Fluid mechanics, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering, or a related field
2. Expertise in first-principle modelling approaches to Multiphase Flow Dynamics (Gas, Liquid, and Solid Flow physics)
3. Multi-physics CFD modelling of multiphase flows (Ansys, OpenFoam, COMSOL)
4. Building and validating reduced-order models from high-fidelity simulations is highly desirable
5. Experience in modelling of mechanical systems, fatigue analysis
6. Understanding of Production Systems is desirable
7. Relevant publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals are desirable
