Mechanical Maintenance Engineer
Location: London
Hours and Rota: 37.5 hours per week. The role will be expected to work an 8 hour shift between 8am and 8pm, Monday - Sunday.
Salary: £27,500 - £33,275 per annum (depending on experience), plus bonus and benefits
Essential: A full driving licence valid for driving in the UK
Purpose of the Job:
The Mechanical Maintenance Engineer is responsible for supporting the Facilities team in organising and delivering planned mechanical work (gas, HVAC, plumbing, heating, and vent aspects of life safety) and supporting reactive mechanical maintenance, in a safe and compliant manner throughout the properties in their region, working alongside internal and third-party partners. All underpinned by great customer service.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Ensuring that Health and Safety legislation, and a safe and secure working environment, is always adhered to by them and the facilities team.
2. Ensuring required training and qualifications for the role of their team are always audited and up to date.
3. Always working within the required Risk Assessments and Method Statements.
4. Accountable for reviewing all tasks for risk before starting, and ensuring that risks are eliminated before work begins.
5. Completing all paperwork required for property files and ensuring all records of site operation are accurate, structured, and compliant with Unite Students policies and procedures.
6. Support the Facilities team in mechanical safety and maintenance across their region.
7. Support the constant development and implementation of working procedures as part of the broader Health and Safety strategy.
8. Locating and rectifying a wide range of mechanical faults, understanding the root cause and risk to asset condition and investment.
9. Report to the Duty Holder to advise on responsibilities and recommendations from a mechanical safety and strategic perspective.
What we are looking for:
1. Qualified in either Plumbing or Gas installation to a minimum of City and Guilds, NVQ 2/3 or SVQ 2/3 Domestic plumber discipline or equivalent with relevant work experience.
2. Have works delivery supervisory or relevant post experience.
3. Be technically competent and qualified to safely operate, and make safe to work on or test, the equipment, systems, or installations for which appointment is sought.
4. Experience working within Plant Rooms and Plumbing, Heating, Gas, HVAC, and Vent systems.
5. Demonstrable awareness and understanding of the L8 code of practice.
6. Good knowledge of Health and Safety legislation.
7. Be confident, self-motivated, and always set a good example.
8. Coach colleagues in the moment, continuously providing feedback to improve their performance and stay motivated.
9. Demonstrate good problem-solving skills.
10. Ability to collaborate effectively with teams and other internal stakeholders.
11. Able to contribute to a culture of high performance and lifelong learning, taking responsibility to develop own areas of growth and supporting the team through regular 1-to-1 conversations.
