Role: Process Optimisation / Project Engineer (Plastics / Packaging) - Food / FMCG background also welcomed
Location: Doncaster
Working Hours: 42 Hours / Week. (Mon-Thur 08:00-17:00, Fri 08:00-16:30)
Salary: £40-60K (junior position also open, please reach out for further details)
Role Itself:
To support, plan and manage all kinds of tasks and activities within business projects, ensuring they are completed on time, meet the needs of the business, and stay within budget. Provide fresh input into design and modern development techniques while supporting the analysis, testing & validation requirements for future products and processes. Provide product and process technical support to operational teams when issues arise with in-specification products. A project will be defined but not limited to providing increased capacity or the introduction of a new product or system improvement, which may include introducing equipment or materials.
Reporting to: Technical Projects Manager
Responsibilities:
1. Support the implementation, execution, control, and completion of specific tasks within key projects, ensuring consistency with company strategy, commitments, and goals, supporting project leaders and operations as instructed by the Technical Projects Manager.
2. Assist and support the design, development, and implementation of new and improved products and processes within the PDE team.
3. Support the prototype, pilot, and industrial phases of all projects across all facilities.
4. Recognise risks that could impact the likelihood of success and ensure such risks are both formally and informally measured throughout the project lifecycle.
5. Create and deliver project work plans and revise as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements.
6. Agree with project leader(s) on the timescales, costs, and resources needed to deliver the project on time and on budget, escalating any roadblocks to the Technical Projects Manager.
7. Manage day-to-day operational aspects of the project(s).
8. Ensure that each stage under their responsibility is progressing on time, on budget, and to the right quality standards.
9. Work effectively within the Projects team.
10. Participate in the tender process for tooling and equipment estimates as requested by project leaders or the Technical Director-Plastics, negotiating with contractors and suppliers for materials and services.
11. Assist in creating and implementing supply specifications and agreements to assure the security and specification of supply meets business and project needs.
12. Assist with the provision of tool estimates, cycle times, and material specifications by the Technical Projects Manager in the overall project's investment plans.
13. Assist in developing an extensive supplier framework, both local and outsourced.
14. Manage timelines using Smart sheets and Microsoft Project.
15. Align with the Technical Projects Manager-Plastics to debug products and components to ensure maximum sales potential is maintained.
16. Ensure project documents are complete, current, and appropriately stored.
Essential Experience:
1. Mechanical or production engineering background (ideally with a higher education qualification).
2. Relevant experience in the Plastic Closures Industry (packaging, Food / FMCG also considered).
3. Experience with plastic processing and injection moulding operation and setup.
4. Knowledge of injection moulding tools, particularly construction and design formats.
5. Basic use of AutoCAD for managing and editing layout and part drawings.
Desirable Experience:
1. Familiarity with SolidWorks, Inventor, or Pro E 3D design packages.
2. Experience with project management tools (MS Project, Smartsheets).
3. Knowledge and experience in project support/management.
