Cranfield Airport is a commercial, research and general aviation (GA) airport situated between Bedford and Milton Keynes, and is home to several companies which provide commercial flight training, maintenance, and research and testing for industry and government projects.
About Cranfield Airport Operations Limited
Cranfield Airport is located between Bedford and the City of Milton Keynes and currently operates between 0800 and 1830L Monday to Friday (0900 – 1800L weekends and Public Holidays). The airport has annual movements of circa 35,000 and provides Aerodrome and Procedural Approach control from the UK’s first operational digital control tower, which opened in December 2018.
Situated in busy Class G airspace, Cranfield manages a variety of traffic types ranging from single engine training aircraft to BAe146 and ATR-72. The airport is wholly owned by Cranfield University, who operate several aircraft of their own, including the National Flying Laboratory Saab 340. The airport is home to several companies which provide commercial flight training, maintenance, and research and testing for industry and government projects.
All airport services are provided by Cranfield Airport Operations Ltd, including the FBO, fuelling, and RFFS, which can deliver up to Category 6. Airport facilities include non-precision approaches to both runways and hangarage which has been recently refurbished to modernise and improve energy efficiency.
The airport benefits from the wide range of facilities available on the university campus, from leisure facilities and food outlets to educational resources.
About the Role
This role is an integral part of the team providing refuelling services to a mixture of light aircraft, business jets and based aircraft including the FAAM Bae146 aircraft, NFLC SAAB 340. You will be responsible for :-
• Executing daily quality control checks on equipment and vehicles and ensuring equipment is in a clean and fully functional condition. Ensuring fuel vehicles are correctly loaded and balanced.
• Ensuring that fuel has passed all quality control checks in line with CAA and fuel company regulations prior to it being dispensed and taking receipt of fuel deliveries from suppliers in accordance with CAA and local procedures including sampling, testing and petroleum regulations.
• Keeping a written record and computerised record for each installation which must include detailed information about the grade and quality of fuel delivered and the date of delivery, all samples taken of the aviation fuel and of the results of those samples and the maintenance and cleaning of the installation.
• Ensuring that fuel delivered is fit for purpose.
• Ensuring that we have adequate stock levels.
• Assisting with personnel training for new staff members and competency checks for existing staff members.
• To carry out aircraft refuelling from mobile fuel bowser vehicles within the airport environment to a variety of aircraft types from light general aviation aircraft to larger aircraft including Bae146 and business jets.
• Liaising with business jet customers, based operators and the FBO Department for fuel requirements.
• Adhering to CAP 748 and the Aerodrome Manual, Safety Management System and associated policies at all times whilst carrying out your duties.
• Complying with Cranfield Airport Emergency Orders in the event of an Aircraft Accident/Incident as regard to fuel samples being taken for AAIB.
• Ensuring the accurate and timely reporting of any fuel spillages, accidents or potential risks in accordance with Airport Policies.
• Support to University research goals as required in conjunction with your line manager.
• Any other duties to ensure business needs are met.
About You
Ideally, you will be an experienced airport refueller, although full training will be given. You will hold a valid HGV Level 1 Licence. You should also have good knowledge of Health and Safety in the Workplace, and knowledge of JIG regulations. Experience with Excel to enable the fuel farm paperwork to be managed effectively, and experience of a regulated working environment are also required. The ideal candidate should have a GCSE in English and Maths or equivalent experience.
Previous management experience of refuelling personnel and fuel farm facilities would be advantageous. You should also be able to hold an Airside Driving Permit.
