THE ROLE Responsible for handling claims from first advice to settlement, including the instruction of surveyors/adjusters &/or lawyers where appropriate, ensuring that Chaucer’s records accurately reflect the current status of each claim. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Responsible for determining coverage, setting reserves and settlement of claims in the role of Claims Agreement Party for various classes of business, Property & Specialty/Marine Treaty, written out of all Chaucer offices. Liaising with co-insuring Syndicates, companies and claims bureau on large or contentious claims (including issuing market circulars) Assigning, managing, controlling and liaising with relevant service providers during the life of a claim (including lawyers, loss adjusters, third party administrators) Maintaining files for all lead and Claims Agreement Party claims ensuring that Chaucer’s electronic claims records accurately reflect the current position Exercise knowledge of the laws of tort and contract and keep abreast of relevant statutory and case development Ensure that Chaucer’s systems and procedures are up to date, are compliant with Lloyd’s and FCA regulations, and are being adhered to within the department Building and maintaining relationships with brokers, adjusters, agents, coverholders, TPA’s and other service providers, dealing with them in an efficient, polite and professional manner Provide oversight and review of delegated outsourcing arrangements Liaising with Reinsurance and Underwriting departments on key issues Work with Class Underwriters to monitor particular classes of business and identify claim activity within it, including suggesting remedial measures for the future Respond to policyholder complaints via the established mechanism Preparation and analysis of monthly/quarterly reports Consult with Class Underwriters in situations where clarification of underwriting intent is required, where requests for ex-gratia/commercial settlements have been presented, and where coverage is disputed Undertake business travel when necessary. REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITIES To provide guidance to Customers on: How to make and/or progress a claim; By supplying appropriate information to the Customer on any claim being handled; By endeavouring to achieve prompt agreement on settlement terms and paying valid claims in a timely manner once settlement terms have been agreed; Ensure that Customer Complaints are promptly identified, recorded and referred as appropriate; and, By ensuring that the principles of Treating Customers Fairly are upheld by Agents and Service Providers OUR REQUIREMENTS RELEVANT EXPERIENCE Essential Solid claims adjuster experience Desirable Specialty Reinsurance Treaty claims handling experience TECHNICAL SKILLS Essential MS Office Word Excel (intermediate) Desirable ECF experience (Lloyd's and LIRMA) EDUCATION Essential Lloyd's Introductory Test (or equivalent) GCSE Maths grade B or above (or equivalent) Desirable ACII (or equivalent) A Level Maths grade C or above (or equivalent) PERSONAL SKILLS Ability to work without direct supervision Professional outlook Very good interpersonal skills Excellent organisational skills Good communication and negotiation skills with the ability to liaise at all levels ABOUT US Chaucer is a leading insurance group at Lloyd’s, the world’s specialist insurance market.
