Consultant Ophthalmology interest in Glaucoma

This is an additional Consultant Ophthalmologist to the Department of Ophthalmology in East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust. The post-holder will lead specific duties as part of the development of a multi-disciplinary team approach to care within the specialty. The appointee should have a special interest in Glaucoma.
Main duties of the job
The appointee will be expected to offer expertise in the management of Glaucoma and general ophthalmic service and cataract surgery. The appointee will be expected to work as a team with Orthoptists and Optometrists, contribute to doctor training, and participate in audit and governance programmes. The appointee will work closely with the other Glaucoma consultants and develop efficiencies for the Glaucoma service, which has the highest backlog number of patients waiting for their follow-up appointment.

Person Specification
Qualifications & Registration
* Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons.
* Name on Specialist Register on date of taking up appointment or to have obtained CCT within 6 months of interview date or: Certificate of eligibility for specialist registration (CESR).
* Other higher degree or diploma e.g., MS, MD, or PhD.
Training & Experience
* Wide experience in all aspects of Ophthalmology, culminating in the award of a CCST.
* Competence in performing high volume and complex cataract surgery.
* Fellowship trained in glaucoma.
Administration & Management
* Evidence of participation in staff management.
* Understanding of recent initiatives and changes, including Clinical Governance and Appraisal.
* Management course and/or qualifications.
* Knowledge of the structure of Health Service.
Audit, Research and Publications
* Thorough understanding of principles of medical audit.
* Understanding of the role of research.
* Completion and/or Publication of audit projects.
* Experience of clinical research culminating in presentation and publication of original studies, review articles, etc., relevant to specialty.
* Ability to lead clinical research projects.
Personal skills & attributes
* Effective communicator, able to work in a multi-disciplinary team.
* Ability to work with colleagues in other specialties to develop local services.
* Professional attitude towards work and a good record of attendance.
* Demonstration of initiated projects.
* Specific attributes for the post.
* UK Driving Licence.
Teaching
* Enthusiasm for teaching medical students, nursing staff, and other professional groups.
