Care Assistants for a 10 year old girl who lives in the Hesleden area - £12.00 per hour
Apply at UKCIL.com. Reference: cdaec9a8
This girl has a condition called Rett syndrome, which affects her mobility as she is a wheelchair user. She requires 24-hour care for all her daily needs, including personal care, bathing, dietary, and fluid requirements. She receives medications via her PEG and is able to eat and drink orally with assistance. Her diet consists of blended food with normal fluids. Children with Rett syndrome may have epilepsy, and this girl takes regular medication for it.
Her seizures are focal, characterized by her eyes deviating upwards, lasting from 30 seconds to a few minutes. This often self-resolves; however, she has an epilepsy plan and rescue medication to be administered if a seizure lasts longer than 5 minutes, with training provided.
This girl is non-verbal but communicates through her eyes and facial expressions. She is cognitively able and fully understands her surroundings. She is a happy and smiley little girl who loves interaction with others, enjoys cooking, messy play, crafts, watching her favorite TV shows, swimming, and being outdoors in nature.
She lives with her mother, and her best friend is her Labrador, who provides her with comfort.
Hours:
10 hours per week during term time and 15 hours per week in the school holidays. She requires 2-1 care, so her mother is looking for two carers to support her. Hours will be spread across the week and discussed during the interview.
The Care Assistant must be experienced and confident in personal care and using hoisting equipment, managing PEG tubes, and administering medications. They should also be confident in first aid for choking and epilepsy.
Driving is a requirement due to the rural location of the family. Candidates must be able to drive an adapted van for outings.
The mother seeks carers who can assist with her daughter's activities and support her daily needs. Candidates should be compassionate, caring, sensitive, understanding, patient, and able to remain calm in stressful situations. Reliability and dedication are essential, as the girl needs to build a bond with each carer. It is important for candidates to be bubbly and cheerful, as the girl is sensitive and can easily pick up on others' feelings.
Training will be provided where necessary.
An enhanced DBS is essential prior to employment, and the cost will be covered by the employer.
