As a high-level graduate (BSc, MSc or PhD) of Chemistry, Process Chemist, Chemical Engineer, Polymer Science, or Materials Engineering Scientist with industrial / pilot plant / manufacturing or production experience, you will embark on delivering projects in strategic areas such as new components & products, process improvement & consistency, product quality, and supply security. As a Process Development Chemist, you will work closely with the Manufacturing Technology Manager to take the product prototype from R&D and develop a robust manufacturing production process and product specification leading to initial commercial productions.
This is a great role for a Process Development Chemist with practical excellence and experience transferring processes from lab to (pilot) plant scale, preferably scale up to (kg). You will deliver projects in strategic business areas.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead the New Product Development aspects for the relevant manufacturing stage gate processes.
2. Contribute to the adoption of a digitalized approach in the way we perform technical work, embedding and growing our capabilities through lab rig automation and data-rich reactions.
3. Contribute to the fundamental understanding of existing products and processes, e.g. cost structure and bill of materials.
4. Think outside the box and apply knowledge gained elsewhere to the projects and processes under your control.
5. Coordinate activities of lab-based colleagues carrying out work with the manufacturing team.
6. Manage external relationships with suppliers, equipment manufacturers, universities, etc.
7. Collaborate in cross-functional teams, while being the interface with Technology and the plants to achieve functional technology implementations and process improvements.
8. Ensure the scalability of the processes, supporting plant trials and providing technical input for agile identification of root cause analysis.
9. Facilitate knowledge transfer within functions such as Manufacturing and Technology.
10. Foster and manage a good internal network of contacts to progress project work (i.e.: Procurement, Legal, etc.).
11. Participate in, and in some cases, lead global projects.
12. Use project management skills, colleague supervision, and coaching.
Qualifications, Knowledge and Experience Required:
1. BSc, MSc, or PhD in Chemistry, Process Chemistry, Industrial Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Process or Synthetic Chemistry, Materials Science, or Polymer Science.
2. Good process and chemistry background (preferably) in the organic and polymer fields. Willingness to take ownership and accountability to progress projects independently.
3. Experience in an industrial setting - manufacturing, production, or pilot plant setting, with scale up to kg industrially - preferably.
4. Critical thinking with a problem-solving attitude, approaching challenges in a solution-focused way.
5. Manufacturing plant/production plant experience is desirable but not essential.
6. Project management and leadership experience would be an advantage.
7. A good knowledge of analytical techniques and how to apply them to products and process development.
