We have a great opportunity for you to assist in our hospitals by supporting our busy Estates team. We are looking for a Maintenance Assistant. You will be assisting with the maintenance and repair of a wide range of mechanical and electrical plant, equipment and services, and minor building fabric repairs.
To work as a part of the wider Estates team to achieve site-wide engineering compliance, maintaining all building systems and achieving the wider strategic aims as set out by the site Head of Estates.

Carry out routine work such as:
1. Plant room checks and reporting of defects
2. Change of filters on Air Handling Units
3. Clearing drain blockages
4. Replacement of lamps
5. Checking condition of fire doors
6. Planned Maintenance tasks
7. Painting and replacing locks
8. Investigation and rectification of minor faults
9. Generally, assist crafts persons in their work
10. Other semi-skilled mechanical, electrical and buildings repairs or maintenance (within the job holder’s competence and capabilities) as may be determined and directed by Trust Estates officers and team leaders/supervisors.
11. Water system flushing for Legionella control
12. Water sampling for Legionella control (once trained and qualified)
13. Change taps, showers, minor cooper pipe work alterations and drainage pipework
14. Assist with isolation as directed on mechanical ventilation systems
15. Assist with medical gas systems works under direction (following training)
16. First response air conditioning checks
17. To be prepared to work outside normal working (core) hours (overtime) when required (for emergencies or to complete works that for operational reasons cannot be carried out during normal working hours)
18. To work as part of the out of hours ‘on-call’ rota

Knowledge, Training and Experience
1. This is an entry-level role so previous experience is not necessary
2. Previous experience in a similar role is desirable
3. Must show demonstrable aptitude for the role
4. Any maintenance, building or engineering qualifications would be desirable
5. Must show good attitude with desire to undertake training as required from the outset
6. To maintain up to date skills and knowledge, and attend ongoing training and development courses as deemed necessary by the Trust. This will ensure that the job holder can undertake the full roles and responsibilities of their post and maintain current and up to date knowledge.

1. Ability to assist in decision making with regard to solving maintenance issues
2. Able to understand building systems and identify maintenance or performance issues
3. Ability to review system and compliance documentation and decide on a course of action
Planning and Organisational
1. Able to organise and plan own workload
2. Able to assist team leaders and managers in the longer-term planning of the Estates department assets and works
3. Able to liaise with relevant stakeholders to arrange tasks and associated access as required within a hospital environment
