Role Summary:
This role will be responsible for assessing sponsor requirements relating to activity within their area, identifying and applying relevant technical standards, and ensuring design compliance within a major railway capital works project. Reporting to the Senior Project Engineering Manager, this role involves close collaboration with Network Rail, subject matter experts, and geographical sponsorship and delivery teams to deliver integrated and compliant engineering solutions.
Function:
The technical function owns the specification for the scheme, interpreting the business case and purpose and translating this into a system requirements set. Activities fall broadly into two categories - establishing standards and requirements, and assuring these are being met during both design and delivery. These activities take place across a number of domains, each requiring different technical specialist capabilities to provide a suitable level of knowledge, support, and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
* Evaluate sponsor requirements to determine applicable technical standards and ensure alignment with project goals.
* Collaborate with Network Rail, the designated technical authority, to ensure adherence to engineering standards and protocols.
* Engage subject matter experts to provide systems-engineering expertise and validate technical approaches.
* Assure that designs meet all relevant technical standards, safety regulations, and quality benchmarks.
* Coordinate with geographical teams from sponsorship and delivery to ensure seamless integration of engineering solutions.
* Challenge and support geographical project managers to design and deliver cohesive, integrated solutions that meet project objectives.
* Prepare and present technical documentation and reports to senior management, stakeholders, and regulatory bodies.
* Provide progressive assurance throughout the lifecycle ensuring and integrated solution that meets the outcomes of EWR.
* West role includes PEM responsibilities for CS1.
* Take responsibility of your own and others’ health and safety by adopting and working to the EWR Co Health and Safety principles.
* Demonstrates a cost-conscious mindset, keeping tax payers’ money at the forefront of decisions.
* Shows a commitment to innovation by proactively seeking creative solutions to challenges and opportunities.
* Act as a role model for EWR Co’s vision and behaviours, working in ways that are aligned with EWR Co’s Ways of Working, as well as encouraging and supporting others to do so too.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
* Significant experience in engineering management within large-scale infrastructure or railway projects, with a strong understanding of relevant technical standards and regulations.
* Proven ability to assess technical requirements, assure design compliance, and collaborate effectively with regulatory bodies and multidisciplinary teams.
Education and qualifications:
* Chartered Engineer with a relevant Institution (e.g. ICE/IMechE/IET or PWI) or equivalent professional engineering qualification
