Technical Engineer Team are a key part of how we plan to meet the changing expectations of customers and regulators.
We currently have a vacancy for a Network Engineer to join the Technical Engineering Team (West area) which forms part of the wider Network Planning and Engineering department in the Clean Water Service Delivery Business Unit. This role is based in the Calder area of Yorkshire supporting the Calder area. This role will also require cross area working when required.
As a Network Engineer, you will be responsible for providing a proficient and effective engineering capability within the Technical Engineering Team to maintain performance of water infrastructure Performance Commitments, minimise customer impact and provide support to other departments and customers for potable water distribution related matters.
Where you fit in:
As our Network Engineer you will:
* Investigate DG2 failures generated by customers and by maintenance issues to provide cost efficient and timely OPEX and CAPEX solutions.
* Require a detailed knowledge of water network operation and hydraulic understanding to analyse system data and ensure that operational risks and failures are identified and where necessary optimum solutions are identified and implemented.
* Provide direction for investigations utilising field team and other technical resources to ensure that proposed solutions are appropriate supported by written reports and calculations to support capital scheme entries.
* Be responsible for commissioning and proving resolution of DG2 solutions.
* Conduct Criticality / Resilience studies to determine appropriate classification, recording and treatment of critical assets, with a view to investigating and producing contingency plans.
* Interpret and understand how water supply systems which operate over large geographical areas are configured and operate.
* Identify supply interruption risks through analysis of operating conditions, options, and system limitations.
* Assess these risks by undertaking detailed hydraulic and risk analysis, potentially utilising hydraulic modelling tools including critical link analysis.
* Liaise with other teams to investigate risks and develop mitigation plans and ensure that risks are recorded in EDA where mitigation plans cannot provide a robust alternative operational alternative supply.
* Maintain plans and procedures at WSS level and for individual risks, liaising with production and local field teams to develop and test plans.
* Promote the use of quality management systems which hold information for site specific and water supply system risks and operational requirements.
* Ensure that these plans are reviewed with operational teams and ensure that they are up to date and understood by operational field teams.
* Support the production of intervention plans and development of RAMS with contingency plans for significant impacting assets (including WAND development).
* Prepare detailed intervention plans, method statements and contingency plans.
* Calculate the hydraulic and water quality impact of interventions which significantly change the operation of the water network including increased flows, flow reversals and lower pressures.
* Manage small value capital solutions from inception to financial completion utilising appropriate systems and controls.
* Manage small value projects (up to £50k) from solution identification through to commissioning and benefits tracking.
* Ensure that risks are managed through Yorkshire Waters risk management systems and are appropriately described and managed.
* Provide engineering support and coaching to other colleagues in the team and the wider business.
* React to emerging incidents and provide technical support and advice to both the field team and control room.
* Take part in the technical operations level 2 standby rota.
* Handle statutory works including mains diversions and new supplies enquiries, where SLA's must be met.
What skills & qualifications you will need:
* Demonstrate proven analytical skills.
* Experienced in Yorkshire Water's corporate systems including SAP, AI2, Odyssey, RTS, NetBase, ICE, YorBill, Lotus Notes is preferable.
* A detailed knowledge of the design and operation principles of potable water distribution network assets.
* A proven track record of investigating and optimising distribution systems with efficient lowest overall cost solutions.
* Excellent data analysis and manipulation skills.
* Excellent report writing and communication skills.
* Strong Health and Safety awareness.
* Demonstration of knowledge and application of company vision, values and SBOs.
* Ability to focus on specific activities whilst understanding the wider impact of service delivery to all customers.
* Ability to develop and maintain effective internal and external relationships with colleagues and customers.
* Be enthusiastic with the ability to demonstrate drive, dedication, and ambition to deliver first class customer service skills.
* Demonstrate ability to negotiate and influence at higher, strategic levels.
