Job summary LeicesterRoyal Infirmary Children's Short Stay Unit We have an exciting opportunity for a Band 6 Deputy Sister/Charge nurse to join our team working in the Children's Short Stay Unit (CSSU). CSSU is a 12 bedded unit which accepts admissions from the Children's Emergency Department (ED) 24/7 for up to 24 hours of stay. The unit cares for children and young persons up to their 18th birthday presenting acutely unwell with a range of illness, injury and mental health concerns. CSSU is collocated within Children's ED which is one of the busiest in the country. We have a dedicated Children's ED/CSSU educator who will work alongside you in the department and support you in your development. We offer many training opportunities delivered in house and also university and national courses to support you in your on-going development. The education team also deliver weekly MDT simulations within the department and our education pod. The training we provide offers opportunities for further roles within the department. As a Deputy Sister/Deputy Charge Nurse you will work closely with the ward manager to ensure that our patients consistently receive high quality care. This will be achieved through role modelling high quality care, supervising and supporting you team members, working closely with the multi-disciplinary team for positive patient and family experience. Main duties of the job Responsible for the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of programmes of evidence-based nursing care to a group of patients. Leadership and supervision of others carrying out all aspects of the caring process. Deputise and take charge of the given area regularly in the absence of the Ward/Unit Manager who has 24 hour accountability and responsibility. Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of quality nursing care. Participate in the effective clinical leadership and management of the ward team. Actively contribute to the improvement of services and the quality of care provision to meet the needs of patients, service users and their families.
