Job Description
The M25 is one of our Flagship projects in the UK! It is the most used part of the UK Strategic Road Network with it seeing over 200,000 vehicles per day and it’s a critical infrastructure asset for personal and goods vehicles into and around our capital. The network includes around 800 structures and 5 tunnels, so it requires high levels of performance, constant improvement and repairs to keep it operating smoothly.
We’ve formed a Joint Venture project called Connect Plus Services (CPS) to work with our partners to widen, operate and maintain the M25 under a 30-year contract until 2039.
The Assistant Ecologist role sits within the multi-disciplinary Environment and Sustainability Team. The M25 DBFO, despite being one of the busiest motorways in Europe, comprises a huge connected area of various habitats that contains a wide range of species. We play a vital role in enhancing these habitats through ecological and landscape improvement schemes. This is an entry level role for an individual looking to develop a career in ecology.
Key Responsibilities:
* To assist the Biodiversity Net Gain Advisor on protected species surveys which can include planning surveys and accompanying them on field surveys
* To assist the Biodiversity Net Gain Advisor on botanical surveys for UKHAB
* To assist the Biodiversity Net Gain Advisor with developing BNG and biodiversity enhancement schemes
* To assist the Biodiversity Net Gain Advisor on Invertebrate surveys
* To plan and carry out ecological pond surveys
* To act as Ecological Clerk of Work on-site supervising vegetation clearance
* Collaborate with our Design, Project Management and Service Delivery teams
* To assist with Environmental Impact Assessments
* Inputting data using Geological Information System (GIS).
* To assist with Air quality tube collections
* To assist with ISO:14001:2014 environmental audits of offices/depots
Qualifications
* Degree or qualification in environmental subject
* Willingness for occasional night work for supervision purposes
* Knowledge of protected species, botanical identification and survey methods.
* Full UK driving licence to drive a manual vehicle.
* Member of Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (CIEEM) – desirable
* Experience with the use of GIS – desirable
