Job overview
The Purbeck Ward team are known for their welcoming nature. They are enthusiastic and work incredibly hard to ensure that every patient receives the care they need and deserve. Purbeck is proud to support the FERF initiative, which celebrates all the wonderful accomplishments and the dedication that goes into working on a trauma ward.
The successful applicants must be a qualified nurse with experience working within the acute hospital setting. Applicants must have the ability to work well as a part of the multidisciplinary team as well as individually and be able to adapt to frequently changing situations.
Main duties of the job
Purbeck Ward is a GOLD accredited trauma unit, specializing in acute Orthopaedic trauma and working within the wider scope of the Wessex trauma network. The fast-paced and unpredictable nature of trauma nursing, along with its success in achieving good patient outcomes in a friendly, supportive ward environment, are positives that we celebrate as a team.
Successful applicants will be supported to complete their Level 1 Adult Ward Nursing for the Major Trauma Patient competencies, attend TCAR training, and the Trust's Orthopaedic Nursing Study day. We also offer a wide range of educational opportunities at Dorset County Hospital which applicants will be encouraged to attend.
The Orthopaedic unit provides an ideal environment for successful applicants to learn about the complex and rewarding nature of Orthopaedic nursing, both trauma and elective. We care for predominantly Orthopaedics; however, we also cater at times for outliers of other surgical and medical specialties.
The successful applicants will be able to demonstrate an ability to provide high-quality, safe nursing care driven by patient experience and evidence-based best practice.
Safe and timely discharge planning is an essential aspect of this role, which is paramount to promoting effective utilization of the beds on the unit.
