This role is crucial for maintaining a positive workplace culture, ensuring compliance with labor laws, and supporting the overall business strategy. The HR Manager develops, implements, and administers policies and procedures relating to all areas of human resources, including employee relations, recruitment, training, performance management, compensation and benefits, and Health, Safety, and Environmental activities. Additionally, the HR Manager trains managers and supervisors in areas of leadership and progressive management and ensures that the Human Resources department provides prompt, courteous, and efficient service to employees. The HR Manager directs and coordinates a team of Human Resource professionals.
Responsibilities:
1. Develop and implement HR strategies that are aligned with the overall business strategy. This includes identifying HR priorities, setting objectives, and planning and executing HR initiatives that support the company's goals and enhance employee engagement and productivity.
2. Provide comprehensive HR services to all employees, ensuring effective communication and strong working relationships throughout the organization. Offer guidance and support on various HR-related matters to maintain a cohesive and productive work environment.
3. Ensure reasonable availability to all shifts, maintaining an open-door policy and being accessible to address any HR issues or concerns from employees, regardless of their work schedule.
4. Interpret and administer HR policies and procedures for all employees, ensuring that they understand and comply with these guidelines. Provide clear explanations and support on the application of these policies.
5. Ensure compliance with the principles of the Employee’s Charter and the Employment Standards Act. Stay updated on changes in legislation and ensure the company adheres to all legal requirements.
6. Oversee the full cycle of the recruitment process, including job postings, screening, interviewing, and recommending prospective new hires. Develop job descriptions, post vacancies, conduct interviews, and select the best candidates to meet the company’s staffing needs.
7. Ensure that new hire orientations and benefits orientations are conducted appropriately and in a timely manner. Prepare orientation materials, coordinate with relevant departments, and ensure new employees are well-integrated into the company.
8. Administer applicable sections of QS-9000 / TS16949 and ISO14001 standards. Maintain compliance with these standards and ensure continuous improvement in quality and environmental management.
9. Ensure proper maintenance of employee files, keeping accurate and confidential records of all personnel-related information. Organize and update employee records in compliance with legal and company requirements.
10. Exhibit discretion and treat all sensitive information, whether spoken or written, with the highest level of confidentiality, ensuring that employee privacy is maintained at all times.
11. Participate in Joint Health & Safety Committee meetings to promote a safe and healthful working environment. Conduct regular workplace inspections, safety talks, and training to ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and the Occupational Health and Safety Management System (OHSMS).
12. Oversee and manage a performance appraisal system that drives high performance. Set performance standards, conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback and coaching, and implement performance improvement plans as needed.
13. Administer the company's compensation and benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other employee benefits. Ensure these programs are competitive, compliant with legal requirements, and effectively support employee retention and satisfaction.
14. Identify training needs and develop and implement training programs to enhance employee skills and performance. Track the effectiveness of training programs and make adjustments as needed to meet organizational goals.
15. Prepare and present HR-related information for operations and management review on a monthly basis. Promote and implement the divisional business strategy and the organization’s culture. Lead efforts to improve employee engagement and retention, including facilitating monthly employee meetings and maintaining an active Fairness Committee.
16. Follow Magna’s Code of Conduct and Ethics and related compliance policies.
17. Additional duties and responsibilities as assigned by direct manager.
Qualifications:
* A Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field. CHRP designation is an asset.
* Minimum of 7 years of experience in a Human Resources role, preferably in the manufacturing or automotive industry. Proven experience in HR management and a thorough understanding of HR policies and procedures.
* Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. High self-motivation and flexibility. Ability to work independently and under limited daily supervision. Capable of working under pressure with tight deadlines and flexible hours to meet both internal and external customer requirements.
* Familiarity with PeopleSoft HRIS is an asset. Working knowledge of QS-9000 / TS16949 and ISO14001 procedures. Sound knowledge of Provincial legislation including ESA, WSIB, OHSA, OHRC, etc.
