Job Title: Category Buyer
Salary/Grade: £55,516 - £69,000 per annum (depending on experience)
Location: Peterborough

Caterpillar’s Electrification + Energy Solutions (E+ES) division focuses on delivering advanced electrified power train, zero-emissions products/technologies, and the solutions and services associated with these technologies. Focus areas include batteries, fuel cells, motors, inverters, micro grid controllers, charging, energy storage systems, lifecycle solutions/services and integration of components for ePowertrain solutions across industries.

The opportunity
As the Category Buyer, you will be responsible and accountable for directing the development, and/or communication and implementation of a site, regional, or worldwide sourcing strategy. You will manage policies, agreements, source catalogs, and special purchasing programs, and supporting specific Product line(s) NPI programs for the E+ES division.
What you will do:
* Leadership: Provide leadership for sourcing, logistics and resource management decisions. Lead continuous improvement initiatives and purchasing new product introduction activities within Purchasing. Demonstrate leadership in recognizing the potential for cost and inventory reductions, and quality improvement; as well as responsibility for soundness of business proposals and risk assessment. Mentor and develop other Buyers, SQEs, and Purchasing Analysts (where assigned). Promote the highest level of professionalism and business ethics.
* Strategy: Tools and Techniques of 6 Sigma will be required and may be attained by Black Belt, Green Belt, Project Sponsor, or other 6 Sigma related training programs. You will develop and lead 6 Sigma Strategic Sourcing teams to fully understand the current performance of the supply base, evaluate strategic options, decide a course of action, and begin implementation. You must also have strong knowledge of the product, NPI, Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Category Strategies.
* Customers: The role will encompass managing suppliers delivering into many Caterpillar facilities. Typical internal customers include contacts at all organization levels, worldwide. As the Category Buyer, you will solve problems by determining the best course of action, within departmental guidelines, from many existing solutions. You will identify and satisfy Critical Customer Requirements (CCR), managing Product expectations for Global Purchasing to deliver benefits required to sustain a competitive advantage.
* Supplier Development: Collaborate with Supplier Development Engineers, to ensure continuous improvement in QCLDM with key suppliers. Build and foster mutually beneficial supplier relationships at all organizational levels.
What you have:
* Works with data analysis, market research, and budgets, enhances sourcing processes, conducts strategic sourcing activities, follows relevant sourcing standards, and assists senior professionals.
* Advises on practices, builds consensus and resolves conflicts with suppliers, reviews progress in supplier relationship establishment and management, evaluates impact, and refines processes for establishing and maintaining supplier partnerships.
* Advises stakeholders on data relationships, anticipates collection challenges, identifies trends, evaluates data quality, interprets risks, and directs data processes.
* Reviews and adapts documents for their intended audience, demonstrates empathy and assertiveness, communicates at all levels, employs persuasion, and maintains focus.
* Explains interaction impacts, identifies roles, understands alternative views, collaborates with internal teams, and adapts interaction styles.
* Ensures awareness of interests, completes significant negotiations, details risks, addresses impacts of decisions and addresses stalemates.
* Administers contracts, implements protocols, explains required information, reviews compliance, and assists in creating files for vendors, contracts and customers.
* Records purchasing activities, uses procurement systems, ensures compliance, and adheres to procurement steps and tasks.
Top Candidates Will Also Have:
* Professional certification in Purchasing and/or Inventory Management
* Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles as applied by Caterpillar and our suppliers.
Additional Information:
* There is up to 20% travel requirement for this role.
* This role is 5 days a week on site at our Peterborough office.
