Strong Group are acting on behalf of a leading, well established construction company based near Cambridge. We are seeking an experienced estimator.
The ideal candidate will be ambitious, self-motivated, and capable of working independently or as part of a team. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with a clean driving license, are essential. You must be organized, proactive, and able to meet deadlines effectively.
This office-based role involves working with our Estimating Team, with flexibility to work from different locations if needed. Experience in sectors like Commercial, MOD, Education, and Healthcare is desirable but not essential. Familiarity with various procurement routes (D&B, Traditional, 2 Stage) for projects valued from £2M to £30M is a plus. Training and support will be provided by senior staff.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop cost plans from early design stages to fully measured pricing.
* Take off quantities from drawings and create cost plans.
* Lead the tender enquiry process and compare subcontractor bids.
* Allocate work packages and assess value engineering options.
* Price site preliminaries and manage risk and opportunity assessments.
* Benchmark costs, forecast inflation, and adjust for location factors.
* Price tenders under the Estimating Director's guidance.
* Attend client meetings and present tender information.
* Review tender documents, price groundworks, and manage material quotations.
* Handle pricing for variations and additions.
This role is ideal for an intermediate or experienced estimator looking for career growth in a stable and expanding company.
Key skills required:
* Good organisation skills
* Computer skills - need to be proficient on Microsoft Office packages. Experience with Causeway and Excel estimating software is desired.
* Excellent spoken and written English
* A good, clear telephone manner is essential as there will be client interface during the course of the daily works, including Teams meetings.
* Demonstrated a strong work ethic throughout their career is essential.
* Strong numeracy skills with the ability to think commercially
* Team player, ability to work under pressure & strong time management skills
