Bromley High School is looking for Visiting Music Teachers in both Cello and Drum to join our thriving Music Department.
You will teach individual pupils throughout the school age range (Year 3 - Year 13), tailoring lessons to suit the abilities of each individual pupil. Depending on the interests and skills of the appointee, there may also be opportunities to coach ensembles and to take part in school performances.
You will be an outstanding musician, an effective communicator, and an inspiring teacher, who is able to teach from beginner to post-grade-8 standard.
You will be engaged on a self-employed basis (term time only) and will be responsible for creating your own timetable in line with school guidelines, to ensure weekly lessons of 30 minutes are taught to your pupils. The number of pupils will vary due to demand but is likely to initially be between half and one day per week. You are required to invoice parents of your pupils directly. Visiting Music Teachers all charge the same tuition fee, which is agreed annually and kept in line with the neighbouring music service: from January 2025, the agreed rate is £225 for a set of 10 30-minute lessons.
Music at Bromley High School
Our ‘All Steinway’ Music School is housed in purpose-built accommodation with nine practice rooms, two large teaching rooms, an octagonal Recital Room and an iMac Music Technology Room. A variety of choirs and ensembles rehearse weekly and there are regular concerts and a major annual concert at a London Venue. A Music Festival held each year enables all musicians to compete for the prestigious Music of the Year Award and runs alongside a series of workshops delivered by professional players.
The Music and Drama departments work closely together on annual productions, which have included Edward Scissorhands, High School Musical, a musical based on the life of Mary Quant which was taken on Tour to New York, and our most recent production of Made in Dagenham. There are regular music tours, recently to France, Belgium, USA, Germany, Spain and the Czech Republic.
