The main role of the Support Grade is to provide support to Judges, Clerks of Court and all court users and visitors within Supreme Courts, this includes jury attendants and witnesses. The aim is to ensure the smooth running of all court business on a daily basis and to make sure that all court users have a positive experience wherever possible.
At the basis of everything that happens in the courts are the Support Grade staff.
This role is based at the High Court Dundee within the Sheriff Court building. Your main duties will be to the High Court however you may be asked to cover the Sheriff Court business as and when required.
The key responsibilities
Macer
• Attending upon the Judge(s) for robing. This can mean walking up or down two flights of stairs.
• Escorting the Judge(s) to and from Court. This can mean walking up or down two flights of stairs.
• Taking charge of productions, organising and exhibiting them in Court.
• Calling cases using the public address system.
• Obtaining case reports and other authorities from the Library for the Judge(s) use and returning the same. This can involve stairs.
• Maintaining the Judge(s) notebooks.
• Managing and calling witnesses.
• Managing jurors.
• Other related duties as directed.
Jury Minder
• Maintaining the integrity of jury/act as escort
• Acting as liaison between Deputes and jurors
• Administration of jurors
• Setting up Jury room
• Stamping citations and directing jurors to court room
• Setup folders for arrival of new jury
• Set out jury folders each morning and clear up jury folders at the end of each sitting day
• Tidy up jury room and empty water etc. at the end of each sitting day
• Liaising with Clerk regarding Questions from Jurors
• Only answering appropriate Questions (i.e. not discussing case with Jurors)
• Ensuring Jurors are shown out when Court goes down.
• Ensure Fire Alarm procedures followed
• Accompanying Jurors to smoking areas at breaks and lunch hours
