Hull University Teaching Hospitals are seeking a Band 6 Senior Occupational Therapist to join our highly skilled Therapy Team specialising in the treatment of Neurosurgical and Major Trauma patients admitted to the neurosurgery unit at Hull Royal Infirmary.
We require a self-motivated, dynamic clinician who is stimulated by challenge and is looking for the opportunity to improve their skills at a senior level. It is expected that you will have had comprehensive post-graduate experience working in the areas of neurosurgery/neuro-rehabilitation, which ideally would include acute NHS experience.
The post holder will gain enhanced experience, knowledge, and skills in acute Major Trauma and Neurosurgery care. Management of Poly-trauma patients including rehabilitation, regional care pathways and discharge. There will be internal and external opportunities for advanced skills training.

Main duties of the job
The Occupational Therapists work as part of an Integrated Therapy team, ward MDT and wider MDT to deliver highly skilled assessment, interventions, discharge planning, and signposting to various services across the region.
You will gain experience of working in a large busy acute teaching hospital which has defined links with Hull University and is itself a Major Trauma Centre.
The post holders will work alongside colleagues to support the assessment of need across a range of clinical conditions which present within acute care with varying degrees of complexity. Frequently seen cases are primary Brain tumours, Subarachnoid Haemorrhage, acute spinal injuries, Acute head injuries, and Poly-trauma patients.
As an occupational therapist, you will have direct input into the assessment and treatment of patients, delivering evidence-based interventions to facilitate recovery, promote well-being and optimise independent functioning as far as reasonably possible in all areas of life.
The nature of the role requires proficient assessment of cognition and performance using both standardised and non-standardised assessment.
We are seeking applicants who can adapt quickly to changing work environments and work well within a team. You will be expected to be an active member of the multi-disciplinary team and build networks to enable appropriate partnerships with other agencies involved in patient care to both identify and address immediate and ongoing needs.

Person Specification
Experience
* Ability to demonstrate consolidated clinical experience at senior level in appropriate clinical specialities
* Able to work alone and as part of a team
* Ability to demonstrate relevant clinical experience
* Experience in neuroscience area of practice.
Skills
* Evidence of people management
* Must be a driver or have the ability to move themselves independently around in the wider community as required.
* Must be literate, numerate and possess advanced verbal communication skills.
* Be able to demonstrate consolidation of assessment and interventions to manage cognition/deficit.
* Be able to demonstrate skills in the management of acute poly-trauma patients
* Experience of acting as a student professional practice educator.
Qualifications
* HCPC registration
* Recognised Degree/MSc in Occupational Therapy
* Evidence of advanced communication training
* Evidence of Postgraduate studies in Neurosciences/neuro-rehabilitation.
* Evidence of consolidation of knowledge by completion of core OT rotations, including neuro experience
