Talent84 is delighted to be representing our client, a highly successful engineering organisation specialising in large-scale, complex electromechanical products with a global customer base, in their search for an Operations Manager.
About the Role
In this newly created role, due to continued growth, my client seeks an Operations Manager to manage existing daily operations of their assembly, fabrication & test facility. A strategic role with a hands-on focus centred around engineering, fabrication, people management, cultural change/change management and continuous improvement.
Main Responsibilities
1. Overall current headcount responsibility of approx. 30 employees.
2. Management of key metrics and targets for Operations, including Safety, Quality, Delivery, Cost.
3. Lead, motivate and support the UK team within a time-sensitive and demanding environment.
4. Implementation of career development plans for all direct reports including annual appraisals.
5. Track staffing requirements, hiring new employees with the assistance of the HR team as needed. Build a high performing Operations organisation to achieve Company targets.
6. Lead the introduction of Lean systems and processes to drive out waste in Operations.
7. Leading change initiatives both at the technical and people levels through recommendation of improvements in structure and processes by identifying performance gaps and resolving these with efficient and cost-effective solutions.
8. Maintain consistent communication with management, staff and vendors.
9. Work closely with commercial and QHSE to make sure activities remain compliant.
10. Participate in Company reviews both with clients internally and externally. Develop a culture of Continuous Improvement.
11. Support the seamless introduction of new products and manufacturing services into Operations.
12. Work closely with key internal manufacturing capability to ensure supply of parts to assembly is balanced with demand.
13. Work closely with Supply Chain Manager to control inventory levels and balance external supply with demand.
About You
To be considered for the role, it is essential that you possess demonstrable experience gained in a senior management capacity in an engineering organisation such as Operations Manager/Director, Business Unit Manager etc. You will be of a technical background and have worked as an Engineer, with a demonstrable understanding of mechanical engineering/fabrication.
You will be a strategic thinker who is able to quickly stabilise and coordinate the varying requirements on the facility, whilst simultaneously building a team who will work to new processes that support the future demands on the business.
Key Selection Criteria
1. Ideally educated to degree level in Manufacturing Engineering/Management/Mechanical Engineering.
2. Significant experience working in Operations Leadership roles, preferably high value, high mix, medium volume environment.
3. Change management expertise.
4. A strong people leader and experience of mentoring, coaching performance management.
5. Ability to produce key material to present at senior leader level.
6. A resilient and progressive mentality, looking for opportunities for innovation.
7. Demonstrated experience in workplace environments undergoing significant change and has the ability to influence stakeholders across the Business.
8. Strong background in Lean and Continuous Improvement.
9. Excellent communication skills with people at all levels of the business and able to successfully communicate company updates and changes clearly and effectively.
10. Experience in introduction of new products into the Operations environment.
11. Experience in demand and supply chain planning, preferably using SOP processes.
12. Proficient user of Microsoft Office i.e. Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
13. Experience of using Access databases is advantageous.
