There is an ambulatory service at George Eliot via a dedicated Children's Assessment Unit with pathways for ED care, urgentcare and Paediatric care streamed on arrival at triage.Development of a Short Stay Assessment Unit for specific conditions is being actively explored as the next phase of service development. Transfer for inpatient Paediatric care to UHCW is via a well-developed pathway. Children arriving through the walk-in service occasionally become critically ill, the resuscitation team at GEH liaises with theKIDS PICU retrieval team in these circumstances and a bespoke plan is made for transfer. A shared transfer policy forPaediatrics, ED and anesthetics is in place for these circumstances There is a SCBU caring for babies from 32/40 gestation up to term and receiving babies for step-down care from LMNS partner hospitals. Within the maternity department there are approximately 2,400 births a year and 300 admissions to SCBU which has 8 cots. The unit is part of the South West Midlands Neonatal Network and theCoventry and Warwickshire Local Maternity and Neonatal Service. Babies who require LNU or NICU care are transferred either in- utero or after delivery within this LMNS. The regional Neonatal Transport Service conveys these babies.
