Job overview
We are seeking an enthusiastic and highly motivated, Band 7, Ward Manager to lead the nursing team on ward C8. This is a full time (37.5 hours per week) permanent position working Monday - Friday.
Ward C8 - comprises of 18 mixed cardiology/care of the elderly beds. Patients no longer requiring acute care on A7 are transferred here. Pulmonary Hypertension patients requiring assessment and on-going treatment, heart failure patients needing stabilisation of their condition and TAVI patients' pre/post procedure are all cared for within this setting. Daily Cardiology and Care of the Elderly ward rounds are undertaken. The area has a high through put of patients and provides opportunities for staff to develop and enhance their palliative care and discharge planning skills.
You will be joining a dynamic and friendly team who have a passion for delivering high standards of patient care, believe investment in the professional development of the nursing team is essential, enjoy looking after staff well-being and have a strong commitment to retaining their workforce within the directorate.
You will be supported by the Senior Nursing team and have the opportunity for further development that can be tailored to the successful candidate and include both leadership and clinical components.
Main duties of the job
* To undertake the assessment of patients/clients with cardiology needs.
* To develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care to meet the needs of patients cared for within ward C8.
* To guide, advise and direct other staff in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient/client care.
* To initiate risk assessment processes to determine risks to the health and wellbeing of patients/clients with complex care needs, taking relevant action to minimise these risks.
* To lead a team of staff in emergency and other acute situations, ensuring that the patient's/client's needs are met and that significant others are supported.
* To utilise information and data from a range of sources to identify patient problems and guide decision-making processes.
* To promote service user involvement in the planning, delivery and evaluation of care, respecting their wishes, beliefs and dignity.
* To independently liaise and communicate effectively with all members of the multidisciplinary team and other agencies involved in the care of the patient/client.
* Attend Adult cardiac arrests, using skills in line with Trust Policy.
