Role Purpose
We are seeking a detail-oriented Sustainability Consultant specializing in data centers to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will play a crucial role in helping our data center clients navigate the complex landscape of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) issues, while driving sustainable practices across their operations.

Responsibilities
1. Data Center ESG Reporting
* Develop and implement comprehensive ESG reporting frameworks tailored to data center operations
* Collect, analyze, and interpret ESG data specific to data centers, including energy consumption, water usage, and GHG emissions.
* Prepare detailed ESG reports for stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and compliance with relevant standards (e.g., CSRD, EU Taxonomy, GRI, SASB, TCFD) and data center industry benchmarks
2. Environmental Compliance Support for Data Centers
* Conduct audits (e.g. ISO 50001, energy audits, PUE audits, EU CoC) and support data center clients in maintaining compliance
* Stay up-to-date with evolving environmental regulations and standards specific to data centers
* Provide guidance on environmental management systems and best practices for data center operations
3. Life Cycle Carbon Analysis for Data Center Infrastructure:
* Perform detailed Whole Life Carbon Assessments (WLCA) for data center facilities.
* Identify opportunities for carbon reduction across data center supply chains and operations
* Develop strategies to minimize environmental impacts and enhance sustainability of data centers
4. Research and Advisory on Emerging Data Center Technologies:
* Stay abreast of cutting-edge sustainable technologies and practices in data center design and operation
* Conduct in-depth research on innovative solutions for energy efficiency, cooling systems, and renewable energy integration in data centers
* Provide expert advice on the implementation of new sustainable technologies for data center clients
5. Client Engagement and Project Management
* Manage multiple data center client projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery and high quality
* Communicate complex sustainability concepts effectively to diverse stakeholders in the data center industry
* Facilitate workshops and training sessions on sustainability topics relevant to data center operations
* Support with creating proposals for new project and clients
* Help Northshore to develop its service offering within the sustainability team
The ideal candidate for this role should have:
* Relevant experience within the sustainability consulting, carbon accounting, preferably in data centers (1 – 3 Years)
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
* Strong knowledge of ESG reporting standards, environmental regulations, and sustainability best practices in the data center industry, particularly in the EU
* Experience with life cycle assessment tools, such as one-click LCA
* Degree in STEM preferred
* Knowledge of sustainable building design, sustainable building materials, and carbon capture technologies is a preferred.
* Knowledge of data center sustainability metrics and KPIs, such as PUE, WUE, ERF, etc.
Location and Travel
The role is remote and any work whilst not on site will be home based. The preference is for the candidate to be based in the Netherlands or in the UK. Travel to client sites is to be expected for up to 20% of the time.
Qualifications and Experience Requirements
Degree: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, Economics or a related field
Field of Expertise: Data centre sector, sustainability consulting or similar role
Years worth of experience: 1-3
Skill Requirements
* Passion for sustainability
* Attention to detail and excellent Excel skills, with Power BI and Python a plus
* Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
* Strong knowledge of ESG reporting standards, environmental regulations, and sustainability best practices in the data center industry, particularly in the EU
* Knowledge of sustainable building design, sustainable building materials, and carbon capture technologies is a preferred.
* Knowledge of data center sustainability metrics and KPIs, such as PUE, WUE, ERF, etc.
Logistics
Start Date: As soon as possible
Hours: Monday – Friday. Flexible according to business needs. 40 hours per week.
