The Role
The Principal Engineer - Mechanical Engineering (Platform Systems) shall provide support to the Engineering Manager and/or external specialists during development and analysis of mechanical systems. The Principal Engineer shall act as team lead, managing the day-to-day activities of the team and the production of deliverables. The Principal Engineer shall be responsible for developing and maintaining the competency and skills of the team, project plan and schedule project activities, while managing the resolution of any related issues.
Platform Physical Design and Installation Service's provides a key role in physically integrating Integrated Combat System's Equipment onto our Royal Navy Submarine Fleet. As a Principal Engineer Mechanical, you will be expected to provide SQEP Engineering Support ensuring our designs function as intended, are safe and fit for purpose.
Role Responsibilities:
Not limited to...
1. Review of Integrated combat design's and their platform interfaces providing SQEP feedback in terms of Mechanical design (Structural, Thermal & Hydraulic) in the Naval/Marine domain.
2. Examples of tasking will include reviewing and providing guidance against:
1. Interface and Installation Guidance Information.
2. Design Information to support Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, and Final Design Reviews packs.
3. Foran/CADS5 model to support part approvals, supplier's manufacturer's data packs, etc.
4. Production of CS Mechanical design interface information, e.g. Interface and Installation Guidance Information.
5. Taking ownership of specific Mechanical design issues and managing Integrated Combat System, Platform (In build & in service) stakeholders and external partners in providing and implementing design solutions.
6. Producing Engineering Drawings in FORAN/CADS5/Viso to BS 8888.
7. Performing Engineering calculations (Structural, Thermal & Hydraulic) to support design-proving activities, as required.
What BAE Systems are looking for, from you:
1. Knowledge of Standard's Desirable
2. Def Stan 08-107 General Requirements for the design of Electro technical and Naval Weapon Equipment.
3. Environmental Qualification Standards Def Stan 08 - 123 & Def Stan 00-35.
4. Submarine Materials Toxicity standard/database BR1326A (or surface ship equivalent).
5. In-depth knowledge and experience specifying mechanical equipment and components (heat exchangers, pumps, diesel generators, hydraulic plant, compressors, etc).
6. Technical report writing skills.
7. Demonstrable experience in the delivery of mechanical systems through the development lifecycle.
8. Comprehensive experience of applying technical expertise across the full engineering lifecycle.
9. BEng (Hons) / MEng or equivalent in a relevant STEM degree.
10. CEng or capable of achieving CEng.
Security Requirements:
1. SC & ITAR & UK EYES ONLY
This role will require the person to hold full Security Clearance (SC) prior to working onsite. You will need to obtain a BPSS check as part of this process. You must currently hold or be eligible and willing to obtain SC. In addition, this role involves direct and/or indirect access to ITAR Material which means there are restrictions. The Umbrella rate quoted above is the Gross Umbrella rate (i.e. the rate we pay to the Umbrella Company inclusive of ALL employment costs). Please note, the rate paid by the Umbrella will be less, as will a Limited Deemed rate or Agency PAYE rate. Please get in touch to discuss the rates via these different payment vehicles.
