We are excited to present a fantastic opportunity for a locum Speech and Language Therapist to join our friendly therapy team, at Woodlands Neurological Rehabilitation Centre in York, on a 6-month fixed term contract from July 2024.
Woodlands is a specialist Level 2 purpose-built neurorehabilitation facility, rated as GOOD by the Care Quality Commission. Set on a plot, surrounded by mature woodlands and well-maintained grounds, we support up to 26 patients with acquired brain injury, traumatic brain injury, severe neurological conditions, complex stroke, and spinal cord injury. We are part of the wider Active Care Group Neuro Network (consisting of 25+ sites nationally) and we focus on the use of clinical expertise, innovation, and technology to meet patients’ expectations of their rehabilitation goals.
The interdisciplinary team, led by a Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, delivers high-quality and intensive neurological rehabilitation; physical, cognitive, functional, and vocational assessments; behavioural management and complex disability assessments for adults.
Patients benefit from access to our neuro-specialist team consisting of a Junior Doctor, Speech and Language Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Neuropsychologists, Physiotherapists, Therapy Technicians, specialist Nurses and Rehabilitation Assistants.

What you'll be working:
Our standard working hours for this role are hours per week, Monday to Friday. What you'll be doing:
1. Provide assessment and management of communication and swallowing disorders
2. Devise evidence-led therapy programmes for patients at a specialist level, with an emphasis on multidisciplinary working to achieve the best outcomes for our patients
3. Maintain high standards of clinical care in line with national guidance for excellence
4. Named Therapist duties to ensure cohesive goal-setting and therapy and coordinating discharge
5. Develop your skills in clinical supervision and informal mentoring of Speech and Language Therapy assistants and students
6. Participate in internal training (induction, mandatory training, MDT in-service)
7. Ensure all relevant codes of practice and regulations are upheld
8. Participate in service delivery audit and quality improvement initiatives
9. Keep people safe from harm and protect their human rights
What you'll have:
10. HCPC registration
11. Previous experience of working in a neurorehabilitation setting
12. Experience in working with aphasia, cognitive communication disorder, dysarthria, apraxia, and dysphagia is essential
13. Specialist level dysphagia competency on RCSLT framework
14. Ability to motivate patients over long periods
15. Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS
