Purpose: A product manager is responsible for the quality of their products. In this role, you will be expected to use your knowledge of user needs and business goals to frame problems and set priorities for your delivery team.
Your products: Flooding Products
Responsibilities:
1. Maximise the value delivered through your Flooding products on behalf of the Flood Forecasting Centre (FFC), taking into account the balance between aligning to business strategy, delivering customer contracts and responding to end user needs.
2. Develop, own and communicate a product vision and roadmap based on Flooding customers, stakeholders and user needs.
3. Identify and manage development dependencies on other directly or indirectly related systems or products.
4. Apply Government Digital Service (GDS) service standards and guidance to ways of working to ensure our public digital services are meeting government standards and appropriately apply GDS standards to those services which are not openly available to the public.
Align to the skills within the DDaT Product profession – in particular:
1. Agile working: use Agile principles to adapt, challenge, reflect and improve ways of working, to deliver effective solutions.
2. Product ownership: Act as product owner, leading the agile delivery team for the FFC. Translate requirements to the delivery team. Help the team to manage and visualise outcomes, prioritise work and adhere to agreed minimum viable product (MVP), priorities and scope.
3. DDaT perspective: Demonstrate a working understanding of design, technology and data principals – using data to drive evidence-based decisions.
4. Financial perspective: Consider the financial cost of delivering and maintaining features when prioritising and accepting demand from the business, including impact to the total cost of ownership (TCO) of your product.
5. Lifecycle perspective: Manage flooding products through discovery, alpha, beta and live states, supporting the lifecycle phases and requirements of the website and mobile apps products.
6. Operational management: Lead the team to balance delivery priorities and business as usual activities with operational issues through effective prioritisation.
7. Problem management: Initiate and monitor actions to investigate patterns and trends to resolve problems.
8. Strategic ownership: Align to Digital Services strategic objectives to deliver against key performance measures across the product portfolio.
9. User focus: Develop in-depth knowledge of the FFC, the users and their needs. Support user research activities to shape and understand outcomes against deliverables.
10. Working within constraints: Identify, communicate and work within constraints. You can challenge the validity of constraints and ensure standards are being met.
